We're not having a bridal party either, for the same reasons you listed. we also didn't want to be playing favorites with who we choose, or not choosing people because we knew who was having financial difficulties. It no longer makes any sense to have a bridal party these days!

I think this is a fabulous idea! I never even considered it, but it would make it easier to avoid hurting anyone's feelings.

It is foolish to wish for beauty. Sensible people never either desire it for themselves or care about it in others. If the mind be but well cultivated, and the heart well disposed, no one ever cares for the exterior.

We are doing the same thing-no bridal party. My finace is going to have his daughter stand up for him, and i am going to have my brother stand up for me. Since we are doing a beach wedding, I liked the idea of keeping it simple!

that sounds like a beautiful ceremony. Don't let anyone sway you from your plan.

My dh and I had a small church wedding (just close family and friends in the audience and our best man and woman). Ten years later and I have no regrets on having kept things simple. It was really nice not having the stress (both financially and socially).

Best wishes on your wedding!

I just got married in June with no bridal party and had a tiny wedding (just parents, siblings, pastors and 3 friends each). I wanted to go to city hall... but everyone else wanted to be there. So the compromise was have the small wedding at my parents, over dinner.
We might have something bigger later but i don't want to.

I was weighing for a long if I wanted a bridal party or not and I was going to elope. I only recently changed my mine because I want my friends and family to be a part of it after all. You have to what is best for you and what you want and not what everyone else wants.

Thanks 2UNHEALTHY. WOW you were really gutsy...eloping and telling them afterward. But I give you the props for doing it your way! Who the heck needs tradition? Not me!

Yes, we're going to ask two people to be our witnesses...but they don't have to stand up at the alter with us...we're most likely going to ask my sister and my fiance's cousin (who he's very close with). Thanks for your response and input.

No bridal party = no problem! It's easier for you, more cost effective, and less of a headache. It's your day.

Mothers and MIL's tend to be hung up on traditions. They really just want you to have the best day ever and their vision may not necessarily line up with yours. Talk to your mom calmly and explain your position. Let her know that you value her advice and that this is a day for you and your future-husband.

You will each need to have a witness (best man/lady of honor), however.

Congratulations! :-)

First off let me say it is your day not your mother's so it's not her decision.

Second...I eloped. I could have had my husband's family attend (which he wanted)but my family didn't even know I was getting married until after when I called and told them. I just wanted it to be about us as well. I think it's a great idea and as a former Maid of Honor for my sister it is expensive to be in a wedding. Your plan sounds great and really who needs all the extra fluff.

My fiance and I have decided not to have a wedding party....no bridesmaids, MOH, best man...etc. First off let me say that we have friends who we'd consider asking but I really just want the ceremony to be about us...I've been in a few weddings and it's stressful and expensive to be a bridesmaid so I'm thinking that I don't want to burden my friends with this expense. All of our close friends will be at the wedding and we'll incorporate them in our day in other ways (by doing a reading, etc.). My mother is making feel like a weirdo for not having a party but all of my friends are giving me the props for doing what I want. What are your thoughts?
