Hello ShopGirl1960, Thank you so much for your advice, I too have been thinking of having my makeup done because my finance wants me to be pampered on our special day. However, I am used to doing my own makeup and it is scary to think about someone else doing it. I will be following your advice.

I forgot a few months before I got married, I did go to a place to get an idea about what I wanted for a hair cut. I told the guy what I wanted and he did not like that idea. Well, if they don't like the fact for ideas, then that is their problem. I never went back to that company. Most hair cutters would ask what kind of hair cut you want. At least you can give them an idea. I give my idea these days and glad I have a say in what I want and the cutter goes from there. Cyrella

Hi: I got married 20.5 years ago. I went to the salon 2 days before my wedding, got my hair cut which was a very natural look for me. No up dee dos for me for my wedding day. The hair cutter wanted to put my hair up but I told him no. As for my make up, I wore very little. I did not need a lot. I am glad because I don't wear make up all the time anyway. I never wore it as a teen ager. The kids today wear it so young. They don't give their skin a chance to grow into what it should be a natural look. Cyrella

I worry about that too, since I have scars from bad skin and my skin, to this day, does not always cooperate. Honestly, I think that staying with a natural look is best for most, to prevent looking either like a ghost OR looking clownish. :)
Good luck!

How are your wedding plans, etc. coming along? I hope you are enjoying this special time in your life!!!
I love it! One of the presets for brides gave me a VERY funny look, but I did some decent ones too!

As a former MK consultant, I can't believe I didn't think of that! Bonus points for Vanessa! I'll add to that that through the MK website you can find a local consultant who can get you samples of the colors so you can try them on. Go for the free facial while you're at it!

So here's a goofy idea. And NO, I am not affiliated with this company. Go to Mary Kay's website and do the "vitual makeover." You'll have to upload a picture of yourself. You can choose from tons of colors and give yourself a "makeover." Whichever look you like the best, do that for the wedding (whether it's done professionally or you do it yourself). There's even a special section where you can put on a tiara and/or veil. Even if the virtual makeover doesn't give you the desired look you crave, it's still a lot of fun!

That sounds great! When you find someone you like, definitely see them! Most of the Clinique counters here have older women and do more of an everyday look and not so much trendy. Bummer! I always have a hard time finding someone who can do makeup that I like :(

I'm planning on heading to our local BonTon and sitting down with the gal at the Clinique counter. They're always up on the latest trends and are great at selecting just the right colors for me.

Here is a reminder to not get to caught up in all these little details. I spent a long time planning my makeup with the lady who was doing my hair and makeup. I did two trials and loved how they turned out. So the morning of my wedding she was going to meet me at 7am. Well 8am comes and goes and she is not there. My wedding started at 11am. I was a total mess. I could not get a hold of this lady (and still, 2 years later have not gotten a hold of her) and had no back up plan (bring your own makeup with you). Luckily, a friend of my mom's has a friend who owns a salon. They opened early and did my hair, and talked trash about the lady I had hired. Then the lady who did my hair took me to her apartment and did my makeup with her own makeup. It was really a memorable time, which it would not have been if my other lady had just showed up.

True! I definitely like dramatic eyes, yet natural lips! I'll go with my classic look, just a little fancier :) As you may be able to tell in my photos, I really like to enhance my eyes with eyeliner and mascara. My eyelashes are naturally not thick and long, so I definitely have to wear mascara to get the look I want! I talked to a salon and they offer aibrush makeup. I am going to try it out and will be getting an appointment early enough that if it looks bad, there will be time to fix it up!

Oh goodness, I remember how I felt when I was trying to decide what kind of makeup and how much to go with for our wedding. Most days I wash my face, moisturize and slather on some chapstick. For date nights or days when I just want to feel hot I go simple with mascara, maaaybe some eyeliner (I wore it a lot in college, but less these days), bronzer, neutral blended eye shadows and either a pinky lip gloss or just shimmery chapstick.
All that is to say, I had this vision that when I went to a make up artist I would look stunning - I tried a few places and just didn't find a look I liked. I either looked the exact same, but with tons of gunk on my face or I looked like a lady of the night, lol.
So at the end, I decided on what it sounds like you're leaning toward - I got a tan (it helped that I got married in August) and just stuck with the makeup I'm most comfortable with (I did use a white shimmery eye shadow, but you can't even tell in the pictures anyway). I looked natural and pretty darn good if I do say so myself. ;) So girl, I say go with what you're comfortable with!
Oh, one more thing (sorry, I know this is getting ridiculously long, lol), if you're getting married at night, you're probably going to want a slightly more dramatic look than if you're getting married in the morning/afternoon. Just a thought. :)
What we do in life echoes in eternity. Strength and honor.

Della,
Thanks for the reply! I think using a makeup artist would be a lot of fun, but unfortunately I haven't found one in my area that fits my style. I'm pretty picky with my makeup and just haven't found that right makeup artist. Many of them just do a completely different look that wouldn't be "me." Either that, or I don't care for the color choices they have. Some makeup artists I've talked to only carry ONE brand of makeup, and I like very specific eyeshadow colors that not every brand makes! I'll keep an eye out for one that may work for me :) I once found a makeup artist at Benefit in Dillard's that had beautiful makeup on, so I saw her to get my makeup done! Unfortunately this was in another city, but maybe I'll find someone like this again.

Hi Turrrra,
I am a makeup artist. Perhaps I can help with a few things that are concerning you. A good makeup artist will be able to add natural shading to your face so that you don't look as pale, while still appearing very natural. Also,I have applied makeup to some who had serious skin issues and they were shocked with the before and after. A makeup artist who has studied techniques can truly make a difference in your photos. If you have concerns I would consult with several makeup artist and get a "vib" for their talent. Also ask if they are willing to do a FREE trial~!!!
MANDIETERRIER1, great advice! I think I'll stick to my usual colors and just a slightly more dramatic look than my everyday look. Silver/shimmery taupes tend to look good on me, and although they aren't going with my red and gold wedding colors, they will look great with my dress and what goes well with my skin tone. I also plan on using black liquid eyeliner because the liquid never smudges on me, so it will be great for staying put. A nice thin black line looks clean and neat and really defines my eyes. I'm thinking I may look into having some false lashes put on by a salon... not dramatic ones, but just ones that add a little bit more to my natural ones. I'll definitely do a trial run first though. If they feel funny or look fake, then I'll definitely pass on them.
Now I think the tricky part is my skin color.. I am pretty self conscious of my naturally pale skin and I feel more confident with a tan. I don't want to go to the tanning salon (I did in the past and loved it, but stopped for the sake of my health, even though I did wear sunscreen in the beds). I think I'll use some airbrush tanner that I have. It doesn't come out very dark, but I am sure a very light tan is better than a dark tan in the winter anyway! I just hope my skin stays clear. When I used to go tanning, my skin was perfectly clear. Now I get random acne and some of them are hard to cover up! I just want to feel confident!

I always believe a bride should be a more beautiful version of herself. If you do something wild or different and it does show up in the pictures, you may regret that decision 20 years from now.
For the brides out there (and bridesmaids too!): How are you going to wear your makeup at the wedding? I am trying to decide on this and keep going back and forth on what will be best. I'll probably be doing my own makeup since I have a lot of really good products and I enjoy doing my makeup.
I like dramatic eyes and neutral lips, so I'll probably use some black liquid liner (stays on very well for me) and I am considering some natural-looking false lashes. For lips, I'll do a nude or light pink. I'll probably use a gradual self tanning product to give me a nice glow, but not too dark where it looks silly or fake.
The part I am trying to decide on is my eyeshadow colors. My wedding colors are red and gold, so I can play into that and use golden colors, or I can go for more of a smokey eye, which is a look I always like. For smokey eyes, I prefer silver/dark grays. I always keep it a little shimmery. I tend to photograph a LOT plainer than I think my eye makeup looks in person. One time I spent a good amount of money getting beautiful makeup done for an event. They used gorgeous colors... and I looked the SAME as I always do in my photos and you couldn't even see the colors. I was so bummed! I don't want to wear way too much makeup, but I'd also like it to look more special than every day.
