If you'd like to send me a screenshot, that might help. You can email it to jen@sparkpeople.com.

Thanks!

Jen, sorry but that answer does not really help. My issue has nothing to do with where foods show up in the list. My issue is that I want to enter the exact weight in grams of my foods instead of using cups, teaspoons or whatever. This used to be possible.

Again, for both user created foods and standard foods in the SparkPeople database, we used to have the measurement "g" for grams as the very last measurement in the drop down list. That measurement is no longer there if the food being entered for the first time. I think it might still show up if it is a food I created and entered grams for in the past but I'd have to test it to be sure. I can send screen shots of what I mean if you give me an eMail address of where they should be sent.

I asked our Tech folks about it, and here's what they said:

I think what they're seeing is that the suggested searches drop down sometimes shows different results than they were used to with the "regular" search. The one they reference, "Tomatoes, red ripe" (which we have recorded as a USER_DEFINED_GLOBAL food, meaning that a user entered it and we promoted it to everyone) shows up before Red Ripe Tomatoes in the dropdown list, whereas it shows up second in the normal search list. This is because we weight food names that begin with what you typed higher in the suggested searches, and Tomatoes, red ripe begins with "tomato" while "red ripe tomatoes" does not.

Hope that helps,

Coach Jen

There's something odd going on there. I found a few foods that always had the weight option but now don't, and some that have grams but not ounces. It looks as if the pop-up with the measurement options has a maximum size and won't show the last few options on a long list if they don't fit.

I'm working in Firefox under Windows XP. DietcolaLola, what browser and operating system are you on?

Both. When I did a search for a food in the database and found it (like "Tomatoes, red ripe raw....") I could enter the grams and also when I created my own foods.

Were these options when you added any food from the database, or are you referring to foods you're manually entering?

Thanks!

In the food tracker there was always the possibility to put in the weight of a food in grams. This seems to have recently disappeared. For those of us living outside the U.S. who do not use the America measures like cups, tablespoons etc., the grams measurement was perfect and much more exact.

Could you please consider reinstating that?
