Yeah, I remember going through it a few years ago, and being highly confused for a while. I'm not sure if I figured it out of it was ELYMWX tipping me off, he was in there somewhere, but at some point I figured it out. Not that I remembered recently, obviously, but that's why I was already fixing it before you even mentioned it that way.
It doesn't hurt that I try to go secure whenever possible, so my links are always HTTPS when copied from the address bar. I was an early adopter of gmail's "always secure" mode which I think is standard now, and I've been using the "HTTPS everywhere" plugin (I think from EFF?) in Firefox for a few years now.

Really? I thought it was recent. I guess I just recently noticed it and have been posting busted links for years. I'll be aware of the limitation in the future.
