Spark, maybe it's time you at least reviewed your database entry for elliptical (and probably exercycle), with an idea to removing it until better information is available?
Consider the results in these two experiments:
Calories burned on magnetic machines - machine vs HRM vs Sparkwww.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_
Calories burned on magnetic machines with different weights entered:www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_
You can see that the Spark database values are very likely wrong. Especially when you get results like 22 calories per minute as a burn rate. Let's face it, you have to know that 220 calories for 10 minutes work is simply not likely to be real?
Your database values take weight into consideration when it is simply not a factor for these type of exercises, and this gives the heavier spark users a significantly inflated figure for their logged entries. This can seriously affect users' results, and it would be nice to see Spark doing something about this.
I do realise this is only an experiment of one person. If you think the data you have is superior, would you be willing to post a link to the study that provided those calculations? I would be interested in their methodology - especially in relation to burn for different body weights.
