Deb: thanx, hon, that's a great idea!
Kelly: I didn't realize there's an "Introduce Yourself" thread on the boards, and thanx for pointing it out.
...and that leads me on to - can there be some kind of grouping for the "Newbie Pool," where for the first week a member's name shows up? Us old-timers (lol) could then more easily pick five or six and send a "Welcome" note.
I know they get the SparkGuy befriending message, and there's a "Welcome to Spark" goodie to start them off, but it might be even more important for the shy ones - those who don't join teams right away or who are hesitant to post in the forums - to feel that someone is drawing them into the group.
Can the tech people set up a rolling page, where people join and their names stay on the list for one week before going into the regular members' community lists? Might be too complicated, but if not, it could be a really good way to help the newcomers feel they fit in right from the get-go.
The more encouragement and support they get, the more likely they are to progress toward their goals. IMHO Plus it could help with retaining members; people who don't feel that they're lost in the crowd might be more apt to stick with the program. And most of all, I would think it would be good enticement to sponsors if they could see how many people join each week. Regardless where those people end up (we all know some drop out fairly quickly) the fact that such numbers sign on board with good intentions is pretty meaningful in itself.
