Hi AUD6487! You may need to repost your question since this post is titled to reflect FitBit. You'll get more responses if it is titled correctly.
But, what I think you are asking is how to better use the phone app? Food groups is not functional on the phone app. The only thing you could do on the phone app is go to the same group logged on a different day and use the 'copy foods' button to copy it to today. The only drawback on the phone app is when you do this, it will copy all foods for that meal to the same meal on the day you pick (ie-snack will transfer to snack).
I have the droid phone app and seldom use the scanner feature...mainly because I don't eat much food that has bar codes. I have tried it a few times and I think that it does work, but not many bar codes are programmed yet. So, if you use it, it is hit and miss as to which bar codes will be found. But, yes, when the bar code is found, the nutritional data is made available for you to log. When the bar code is not found, it will ask you if you want to manually search for the food or add the nutritional data for that bar code (which makes it available to you and other SP users for future use).
Hope that helps!
