Ya I'm not disappointed as long as I can stay under 1800 mg this week:) I can't wait to see how it will affect my weigh in!

I think they didn't close the office earlier because they were worried all the hype was for nothing, which does happen a lot here! Probably wanted to make sure we were actually getting all that snow first. emoticon

Thanks Karen. I'm glad my mom has a cool boss too! And her boss has noticed that that girl complains about my mom for no reason regularly and realizes it's a personal thing. Karma will get'er! emoticon

Day one of low sodium week was 1144mg! YAY! emoticon Today is looking a bit higher at 1700 and something but I can still change it around a bit. My dog stole part of my protein bar this morning so I might need to add something else to my morning and I'm thinking peanut butter on my apple emoticon EW! PB has 150mg of sodium per serving! Guess I need a new PB:( I should switch to all natural PB anyways and I think I will as soon as this jar is gone.

Walked on the treadmill for 60 minutes last night and made it to the store on lunch yesterday to get some good foods. I'm all set to be snowed in for 2 days:( emoticon They are saying 6-10 inches between now and tomorrow and that basically where I live will get the higher end! Shoveling is good exercise!!! emoticon They are considering closing my office early today so I plan to go home and get some sweatin' to Jillian Michaels done:) They have said they will likely close down tomorrow too so I plan to get a good treadmill run in tomorrow and burn off some of last weekends badness. Hubby is trying to get his daughter to spend the night too (since school is cancelled today and let's face it will be tomorrow too) so it might be euchre all night in a snow storm baby!

Should be fun if I can keep myself from eating crap!

I did enjoy the game! And I was totally sober watching! LOL! I did make it to the store on lunch. Luckily the shelves were not bare and the crowds were still low emoticon Had soem trouble finding low sodium foods? Nothing in the salad dressing isle seemed to work. Anyone ever try those "fake" salt things? There is a new salt free ketchup with "alsosalt" in it? What the heck is that? Was also going to try "no salt" but that stuff all looks too "chemically." Hmmmm. . .

And now I must get this out, in hopes I will feel better:( *sigh* First week of PMS on the new BC pills and I am feeling a familiar feeling emoticon I have a valid reason for it, but I can definitely tell that it's blown out of proportion (in my head) to what actually happened. My e-mail has been wonky and my mom and I were e-mailing on my work account, but she forwarded one from my personal e-mail. Let's say my personal e-mail signature might offend someone. So mom accidentally replied my message to a co-worker (who doesn't like mom for some reason) and she complained to her boss that she was offended by my signature and that mom shouldn't be e-mailing at work. Well moms boss, being the awesome boss she is! Simply said she had to say something to her, that it wasn't a big deal, but she should be more careful. So now I have this MASSIVE guilt and horrible feeling emoticon emoticon

My e-mail signature? USED to be:

Handle every stressful situation
like a dog, if you can't eat or Hump it
Piss on it and walk away

If it had been me who got that e-mail I'd have laughed and politely told the person they may want to be more careful in the future. LIGHTEN UP PEOPLE!!!! emoticon

Hey Pixie! Don't feel too bad abt the weekend. Did you enjoy the game? It was a great game! I was not that great either...but not disasterous, hopefully. I saw previews for the CFC, it does look pretty good. I don't know if I will watch it or not.

When the toilet paper gets too low, it is definately time to get to the grocery! HaHa!

Confession time. I was just awful this whole weekend! Ate horribly and no exercise:( But what's done is done! Today is a new day!

I'm looking at just over 1000mg of sodium today. My protein is kinda lower than I like, 61 grams, but I also didn't make it to the store this weekend, so I'm scrimping by with what I have at home. Now we're getting a foot of snow beginning tomorrow and I'm stuck going to the grocery store with the "blizzard crowds." Should be loads of fun! But I have no food, almost out of toilet paper and some other essentials so I guess I should brave the crowds and empty shelves. I've got some things to take care of before the storm but at the very least I plan to walk on the treadmill for an hour or so during TV time tonight. There is a new season of Celebrity Fit Club beginning tonight! Kevin Federline and Char Jackson are on together! This should be good:) That is terrible of me! emoticon

I shall have to experiment with the quinoa this week:) You're supposed to rinse before you cook it but my strainer's holes are too big and it falls through. I tried to skip the rinsing once but there were little "things" floating in the water when I cooked it.

I hope my spark friends don't think I'm a total freak after reading my status update! LOL! I was at work and could not replace the item. Thinking back I should have tossed it out but a hungry woman on a calorie reduced diet may be capable of any atrocity emoticon

Quinoa: LOVE IT! Just use it in place of cous cous or rice in any recipe. Cook it up add some olive oil, fresh herbs, and veggies....mmm mmm I might have to make some too, for the week.

Why do you need a good strainer?

Your embarrassing moment was much better than mine! Not that it was a contest!

I like your plan of attack! emoticon

I also like your plan of eliminating the extra sodium.

I am going to continue to look at the scale everyday...I think it helps me remain accountable. That is why everyone loses weight differently!

Have a great weekend!!!!!!!!

So WID. Not so great. 152.4 I have been so up and down this week that I've decided to banish the scale until next Thursday for sneak peek. I've been inconsistent in January. Two good weeks and two bad weeks and none of them next to each other! I'm hoping to make next week MY week! I can kind of pinpoint my problems this week and try to correct them next week. Too much sodium is one! I should never have stepped on that scale on Tuesday! It totally ruined my motivation for the rest of the week. Which in turn was the reason for the higher than they should have been calorie days during the week.

Next weeks plan of attack is:
*Monday-Thursday, and Saturday no more than 1800mg of sodium per day. Not sure yet if splurge meal will be Friday or Sunday for Valentines Day.

*Hit my calories burned goal of 1450 (again:)

*Do NOT go over calories ANY day Mon-Thurs and Sat

*Do NOT step on that scale until Thursday morning for my regular sneak peek before official Friday weigh in

And that should do it!

Gotta get my big booty to the grocery this weekend and get some low sodium items. Frozen veggies instead of canned (should have been doing this a long time ago!), I might try some dried beans instead of canned, fresh mushrooms instead of canned, gonna get some quinoa (for low sodium protein) and a good strainer to rinse it in. Anyone have a good recipe for that stuff? I've had it once at a cooking class I took but the recipe was too long and involved. It was good but I need something simpler and quicker:)

Positive thoughts for today: IT'S FRIDAY! And I'm stoked to make next week a better week! emoticon

Ya and next week just happens to be my PMS week. emoticon Although to be fair this week was exceptionally high for me with the sodium. Last week, and more normally, it looks like 2761, 2010, 2538, 2824, 3066
Still high but not quite as bad as this week. No wonder the scale was going up and up and up though!

This will be hard but starting Monday, bc of Super Bowl ya know emoticon , I will consume no more than 1800mg of sodium per day! I gotta get myself to the store though and get some low sodium foods in the house! emoticon

Wow! Those do seem high. I am sure you will see a big difference if you cut back to under 2000 a day. It would be an interesting experiment, especially during PMS....where I tend to retain a lot of water.

Wow! Yours don't look all that bad compared to mine. I know what my problem is. I use processed fake meats to meet my preferred protein goals:( I like to stick to 80-90 grams a day if I can. Even my protein powder has 300mg sodium per 3 TBSP (which is usually what I put in a shake) My numbers for the past several days are
2287 (today), 3983, 4168, 2434, 2587, 3066, 2824
This is partially why I need to cut it OUT! I don't even add table salt to my food all that often either. Just too much processed crap! I'm thinking it would be easier to transition if I don't cut it down to 1000 right away. So maybe 1800mg next week and then I'll cut it down more each week?

OH, oops I misunderstood on the sugar week.

Hmmm that is a tough one to figure? My max sodium per day is supposed to be 2300mg. I am always at or above that. I'm not sure how hard it's going to be for me to cut it down that much? Let me do some checking on the foods I was thinking of using the most (like tofu) and get back to you on that. . .

Ok so sneak peek is at 151.8. Which is bizarre because it's exactly what I weighed last Thursday! I have little faith that I can be down a whole pound, plus .2 actually, by tomorrow. But tonight I plan to run on the treadmill, planning a healthy food day today and I'll just do the best I can. I wasn't hungry at dinner last night so I ate kinda late and had TWO bags of smart pop kettle corn for dinner! Not the best dinner but I was feeling badly and it tasted good.

Still have this stupid rash, and is kinda worse today. I thought maybe it was from the shirt I wore the other day but I have it on my upper legs too, mostly upper body though. I get this same thing occasionally and it's usually when I'm taking medication for something. When I had poison ivy and was on steroids for it I got the same rash and asked the doc about it and he just said wait and see if it goes away. Duh, OK! emoticon Maybe I'll try some benedryl tonight and see if that helps.

Ok positive thoughts for today! I'm actually happy to see that 151.8 again today! Even though it might still mean an embarrassing status update tomorrow emoticon I hate to revolve my positive thoughts around TV shows but hey it's winter and there isn't much else! Brand new episode of Vampire Diaries on tonight. Love that show! emoticon Ok lets think of one more. . .OH there's only about TWO more months till there will start to be days I can run outside again! emoticon I need to go buy some more outdoor running shorts soon emoticon

Thanks Karen! And thank goodness this day is almost over. I'm thinking, since I doubt I'll make the weight this week anyways, I might take myself a nap and read a bit of my book before Modern Family and take an exercise rest day:)

Ok so guess what? My day did not get better, it got worse:( Our three hour meeting was providing lunch, pizza, so I packed my lunch thinking I was being a good girl. Well I grabbed the wrong thing out of the freezer and long story short it was NOT a microwavable thing I grabbed:( So I was forced to eat the pizza, and was pissed about it so I ate 4 pieces! I'm developing some sort of rash all over my body and I look like a leper? Whats up with that?! I am hoping that NOW this day can only get better!!!! emoticon I'm disappointed in myself that I pigged on that pizza too. Although after this morning I was pretty certain that I would not reach my one pound goal for Friday. It's just too big of a difference to reach in two days. emoticon AND I figured I've been saying "NO" for a week and a half and the weight has been going up. Maybe if I say "YES" the weight will go down? emoticon I mean am I right or am I right?!!!! LOL! I am trying to stay positive. Planning to run on the treadmill if the hubby doesn't bring the kid over for euchre tonight, he might visit his mom instead. And I'm hopeful for next week. I'm going to REALLY try to slash the sodium next week too, and every week. Although, wait, next week is PMS week. So maybe I'll work my butt off for a big loss in 2 weeks! Trying to stay positive here. I lose sight of the positive side of things a lot.

Ok positive thought for the day: There is a new Modern Family and Cougar Town on tonight!!!! emoticon

Ok riddle me this? How could I burn 900 calories the past 3 days and be back up to 153.0 this morning? I only went over a total of 500 calories this weekend! This had better just be high sodium, gotta check that...ok it was really high on Saturday and will be today. Probably was on Sunday too with the Chili's but I didn't log the sodium because I was lazy. Guess I'd better tone that down the next few days and see what happens.

Got up and worked out this morning as well as did a whole hour of walking on the treadmill yesterday (15 on lunch and 45 after work). I watched a show I taped about 2 weeks ago and hadn't had time to watch so it was nice:) Calories were in range but on the high end. I kinda had a bad day so I replaced my veggies at dinner with some smart popcorn! emoticon

That scale made me mad though emoticon I almost skipped my work out today. I hate feeling like I'm swimming around in a circle all the time. emoticon But I will stick it out this week, reduce that salt and if I'm still circling I guess I'll have to change something else?????

what the heck with the calorie discrepency between sp and chilis? eesh. that's a big difference.

wtg on turning down the popcorn at the movies! emoticon you're a stronger woman than i. i can turn down alcohol left and right, but movie popcorn -- i'm a sucker. emoticon and, look at you ... turning down both. she-ra.... emoticon

what a neat charity, karen. brilliant idea. irresponsible pet owners infuriate me. so sad for those animals. i hope your valentines make a difference for those puppies.

Good job on resisting the popcorn. I did resist a little this weekend. It is amazing how even with "resisting" a little, how many calories I can consume. I pretty much splurged Friday night with spaghetti and meatballs, and wine a plenty. It was good, and was a real treat.

You know Staci my BP was better when I was fat and lazy too!!!!!!!!! emoticon GRRRRRRR!!!!!!!! I'm sort of at a loss what to do now:( emoticon

My weekend was ok. I went over calories both Friday and Sunday and worked out on both days though. I thought I was ok yesterday but SP says a Chili's black bean burger is like 200 calories (90 more for the bun) and Chili's says it's 680! Bleck! Anyways the total overage was only about 500 calories combined! AND I did not have even ONE alcoholic drink! emoticon emoticon emoticon That usually adds about 600-900 calories to my weekend! AHG! I couldn't get up to work out today but I think I'm going to walk for 30 min on the treadmill on lunch and then another 30 tonight to burn some cals. I don't feel like sweating hard and taking another shower, I know that's lazy!!!! emoticon

Went to see Legion yesterday (turned down the popcorn!) emoticon The lead girl in it is from Toledo and went to high school with my good friend. I would give it 3 out of 5 stars. emoticon It was good, enjoyable, not great. Could wait for a rental. Maybe The Wolfman will be better:)

We also made Valentines this weekend for one of my favorite charities. Dogs Deserve Better. They work to save dogs who are chained up outside from life on a chain and send these dog owners a Valentine each year asking them to either bring the dog in, surrender them to rescue for a new home or at the very least apply for a grant to build a fence so the dog can run free in the yard, if they must still keep them outside:( I don't talk about it much because most folks don't want to hear it but I'm pretty passionate about animal rights. That's why I'm a vegetarian. Anyone who doesn't understand just watch the movie Food, Inc. And you'll at least see where my heart is. Ok enough of my whining! It was fun making Valentines! emoticon emoticon emoticon

Ok official weigh in today, drum roll please? emoticon 151.6 emoticon I'm pretty happy with that. It's a step in the right direction!

I ran on the treadmill for 35 min last night and did a 30 minute video this morning. It felt good but I'm feeling like I need to catch up to the fitness level I used to be at:( I love getting to log TWO days of exercise at once though:) Makes me feel like I did a lot. emoticon

That's so funny that we have the exact same amount left to go! I'm ready to start a friendly challenge next week if you are? Starting what ever day you want. I think we both weigh in on Fridays so that works out well. I have no obligations (that involve eating) till Super Bowl Sunday! emoticon

My sneak peek today was 151.8. Not too shabby really for how I've been wavering on the healthy. I said NO to pizza last night! emoticon I must be delirious! Hubby wanted to cure his hangover but I wanted to wait and have a good weigh in this week:) I almost got up and worked out this morning. I didn't quite make it and was thinking how nice it would be to run without any interruptions this evening so I went back to sleep and will try to run tonight as I had planned to begin with. I hope I can keep my motivation all day! emoticon

Hi Pixie..

I just noticed that according to our weight trackers, we both have exactly 13 pounds left until our goals. Maybe once you start feeling better, we can really motive each other! We are at the same spot! I don't know if we have ever been that close with our goals after all these years. Let me know when you are up for a friendly challenge to lose the LAST 13 once and for all!!! Lucky number 13!!!!

Thanks for the hugs Karen! emoticon And I have that problem with panty hose too? WTF is up with that?! I'm still feeling jealous of the guys right now though emoticon

Also, feeling much better!!! Got my lazy butt up and worked out this morning. It's amazing what a little exercise can do for your mood:) I think tomorrow I will sleep in though and run on the treadmill after work. Hubby has a thing to attend for work which means if I work out in the p.m. I get the room all to myself!! emoticon

Stayed in cals yesterday, I attribute that to my meds. They make me feel slightly nauseous and then bloated after I take them. Not really conducive for over eating.

I plan to step on the scale this Friday, even though I don't expect much at all. If it is lower it's probably due to all my muscle turning back to fat! emoticon = emoticon But I should check in to see where I am anyways.

When I used to wear panty hose more often (never do now), and sometimes they would sag in the crotch area...it would be so uncomfortable. I always thought, how do guys walk around with that thing!!!

Well GNO was ok. I was tired and left early. I pretty much slept all weekend! Now I know why:( Woke up at 6:30 am Monday, something didn't feel right, I got all ready to work out but realized I could not ignore the shiney new UTI that was my Monday morning gift! BLECK! Spent Monday on the stinking toilet and praying my doc would call in my script earlier rather than at 2:30 as they told me on the phone. I was SO ready to work out and have a great week too:( Now I feel bloaty and crappy. Tired emoticon Oh ya and I started my new BC pills on Sunday. I'm sure you all know what antibiotics do to those. So that's a wash for the next 10 days. I'm feeling SOOOOOOOOO cranky too. Can't figure out if it's getting used to hormones again or the UTI. I think exercise will help but I wasn't quite up for it today. I'm hoping by tomorrow morning. My face is breaking out too. I really was trying to stay positive but it seems like my life conspires against me. And I'm REALLY regretting ever changing my pills in the first place!!!! I told the receptionist at my docs office that one of the side effects listed in the pamphlet of my new pills was UTI and she said "I've never heard of pill causing a UTI." I agree that it probably didn't cause it because I'd only taken one pill on Sunday but it worries me that she didn't know it was listed in the pamphlet and that it was one of the top 10 side effects! If I get another one right after this one I'm gonna be so ticked! Oh and yeast infection was also listed as possible side effect. That is all I will need! I'm stocking up on yogurt tonight because antibiotics also cause yeast infections. *sigh* I want to be a MAN now please!!!!!

Ok so now that I've b*tched up a storm. I'm going to try to post a postivie thought for the day. Might be tough today though. I'm feeling rather defeated. But here goes: At least it's only January. I've got plenty of time to get over this infection and get used to my new pills (or just freaking switch back!) before summer comes and I'll need to be wearing shorts and tank tops! emoticon

I think on WW when you have a lot to lose, you do lose a lot in the first month or so.

I hope you had a good weekend! We were "overserved" on Friday night, causing a little hangover on Sat. We still got up for 8:30 spinning. But, then went to an early lunch and went back to bed!!

Hope you had a great GNO! And I sure that the new levi's and boots looked great!!!

I plan to be right with you on the Weigh In on Friday. Although, I can tell I am retaining water already.

Positive thoughts for today: TGIF man!!! Also girls night out tomorrow and I get to sleep in tomorrow! emoticon Planning to get some exercise in this weekend

Went over cals last night. Mainly due to needing to get to the store and not feeling like cooking. emoticon I will not allow myself to dwell on it though.

Hubby had his 3rd WW weigh in today. He's down another 8 pounds which puts him around 14-15 pounds lost. I think I will secretly try to reach my goal before he reaches 200 pounds. That's like 80 pounds for him. I oughta be able to do that! I hesitate to actually make it a contest because hubby already doesn't do things the healthy way (1-2 pounds per week) he kinda does them the Biggest Loser way (10 pounds per week). I don't want to contribute to him not eating enough and losing muscle because he's not exercising and losing too much per week. Skipped weigh in this week but next Friday it's ON! Hubby moved WW to Fridays so I can keep my Friday weigh ins too:)

I totally agree on the jeans Staci! I just can't seem to find many cheaper ones that fit me usually:( I'm tall and kinda need the "tall" fitting jeans and most of the cheaper ones come in average or petite. But Walmart does carry the Levi's in tall! I did a little more retail therapy last night too. Someone stop me! I went back for the boots last night:) Ended up getting a different pair, but also for $15. Hubby went with me and he really liked them too. So I guess when I plant them in his butt he'll say "ouch, nice boots!" emoticon

I'm really starting to feel better today. Which makes me double worried to start those hormones again on Sunday. I really think that there is great power in positive thinking though! I think that is how I was able to lose that first 30 pounds and keep going for it for 2 years. So. I want to try something to promote some positive thinking in me. Something I really have not been doing. I will admit I've been Debbie Downer!!!!!!!! emoticon Ok so everyday that I actually post in my journal I'm going to post something positive for the day! For one week. We'll see how that goes:) Today the sun is shining! Ok I just looked out the window and it WAS shining but now it's gone. Let's try again. emoticon I'm excited to wear my new boots and jeans to girls night out on Saturday! I got a great night's sleep last night and there is a new Vampire Diaries on tonight:) Finally!!!! emoticon I stayed within calories yesterday even though I didn't work out. Mark my words I WILL reach my goal weight this year! emoticon

there are times when the period is dreaded and times when the period is celebrated. this is a celebrated period. emoticon i hope the new pills you got are easier on your body. i know you hope that too.

yay for new jeans!! i'm one of those "don't care where it comes from so long as it makes your ass look amazing" girls when it comes to jeans. people can spend 100s of dollars on jeans and not look as good as we can look in $20-$30 jeans. my favorite, and the pair i look best in, i got off the clearance rack for $5 at lane bryant. guess they had a lot of sz 14s left over. lol.

hope you got the boots. you're may need something to plant in your husband's butt one of these days. emoticon um, i mean, i hope your husband becomes a little more sensitive and considerate one of these days. emoticon

Aw that is a cute one! emoticon I think he is new too. And I will try to lighten up on myself. It would be a lot easier if my husband and I were more in sync right now. But I started my period today emoticon emoticon Mixed feelings there. But it means I'm closer to easier times so that is a good thing.

I practiced some retail therapy last night. I bought some new jeans at Walmart. The one pair of jeans I have that look good on me were from Walmart believe it or not so I went and bought 2 pair of jeans (Levi I think) and a pair of khaki pants last night. I don't have many pants that fit right now. I actually went looking for shoes but could not find one stinking pair of shoes I liked?! At three different stores?! emoticon Hey there are LOTS of new emoticons! :) Anyways I found one pair of boots that I didn't get, might go back for them today emoticon

As for exercise. Nada. I had a terrible stomach ache when I got home from shopping so I laid down instead. Was not too bad on cals. Not sure what I plan to do today. Just gonna wing it! emoticon

Hugs to you, Karen! Sounds like you need some right now. :(

Hopefully you will get over this hump, and your monthly visitor wont be so bad. Sorry hubby is not very supportive, that would at least help a little!

I went shopping too over the weekend instead of working out! Like I said, trying to cover the big butt, instead of getting rid of it! Too funny!

I'm with you Andrea! F**k the scale! I think I'm just skipping weigh in this week too.

Staci I like when the wife wins too:) But I sure hope that WW beats it into his head that it's a lifestyle! He's pushing 300 pounds and it's just not healthy. He has sleep apnea and thyroid disease so he really needs to try with his weight and exercise.

Karen I was off yesterday too. Got a lot of cleaning and organizing done:) But after reading your journal, nope, I didn't do better than you. Just feeling depressed and crappy. I stayed around 2000 calories all weekend though. But didn't do much exercise. I tried to get up today to work out but just lost my mojo for the morning today.

I let stupid little things get in my way this weekend too. I tried to bribe hubby to watch TV in the kids room for THIRTY minutes so I could run on the treadmill and have the room to myself and he said no:( He wanted to relax and nap. Ok and I even tried to bribe him with sex! Are you kidding me! Then he was mad when I said no to the sex. So why should I give and he doesn't have to? Then I lost all my motivation to work out at all:( Went shopping instead. Then I had planned to work out yesterday since my mom would be at work (she doesn't get MLK off) and I was all set to have a great work out and the day to myself at home. Well she took the freakin' day off too! I was so ticked that I didn't work out yesterday either. I did clean and organize which probably burned something and actually I was good on calories till dinner and then I oinked on pizza. I'm feeling depressed:( Tired of this gloomy cold weather. Tired of dealing with all my problems. Tired of having to work out with people watching me or sitting in the same damn room with me BLECK! emoticon

And yes, I realize that I'm being a big whiney baby! I know that. I finished my hormone pills on Saturday but there is definitely something wonky with me in that arena. I'm nervous to start my new brand of pills too:( I'm worried it will be worse than the other ones:( Plus it takes like 3 months for you to get used to new pills so I'm worried I'll be psycho b*tch for three whole months too. I'm worried my acne will flare up and I'm worried that these hormone fluctuations will cause major problems in my weight:( Starting to think I should have left well enough alone on the pills. I should have known my husband would be a complete and selfish jerk about it, should have known it would take forever to start my damn period and that my doctor wouldn't be much help unless I pushed her. I should have known it would cause me more stress than it's worth. I should have just put up with the terrible PMS once a month and been thankful that the other 3 weeks weren't bad at all.

I'm going to try to go running tonight, although I don't really feel like it. If hubby is sitting in the damn bed watching tv I'll go to the rec. At least if I run there people won't be lying there watching me. They will hopefully be focused on their own workouts. emoticon

oh, he has to worry. he'll hit a nice "starvation mode" if he continues to under eat. then you can win!! emoticon *giggle*

sorry. i just like it when the wife wins. emoticon

hopefully he doesn't peter himself out with the restrictive eating. weight watchers makes a big deal out of being a "lifestyle, not a diet." they don't check the food journals, but if he's going to meetings, he'll hopefully get the message that his point range is established for long term success.

plus, although you're not doing weight watchers, you set a good example for him with your healthy eating and fitness. so, ultimately, you win anyway. emoticon

happy monday!! wishing you a good, productive week!!

My husband is the same way, does really good for the first little while and then bang, he's done....Good for us staying for the long term. I agree with you on the anger towards the scale, but I am glad you let it go. I hate when it doesn't move but I hate it more when i let it affect who I am. F**k the scale, keep being good and being proud of yourself!!!!! This is forever and look how far you've come!!!!

I'm not sure if my hubby reads this but I doubt it. And you are right! But he doesn't have to worry because the stinker lost 10 pounds this week! emoticon I have already told him to "shut up" after he weighed himself! LOL! It's good for him though so it's ok:) And I'm sure he felt good seeing his number on the scale today:) I'm nervous for him though because he's doing what he always does and not eating enough:( He's supposed to have 39 pounts a day (with 35 splurge points each week too) and has been coming in around 26 a day and he keeps saying he's not hungry but I'm worried he'll do what he's done before and lose 40 pounds quick and then get sick of not eating and binge. Fingers crossed though! Maybe his WW consultant will yell at him and he'll listen to her:)

your hubby does not read this right??? If so, feel free to delete....but....

It might really motivate him if he sees tremendous results as opposed to yours! You know what I mean? Guys are like that, kind of competative (well, so am I!). But, if he feels like he is "beating you", it will prob give him motivation to continue..you know?

Perhaps you can "take one for the team"...."yes, dear, you lost a lot more weight than me" LOL

Just a thought! It would help you both, cause in the very back of your mind, you know better that your body is retaining water, etc.

Pixie, that was my first thought was the pills you are taking. Glad you "cooled off" and are looking at things logically. But remember, next week will probably be a PMS week for you! (I know way too much about you!) haha

My point is, hang in there....your body is going through some changes.

Mmm thanks for the pizza and beer Karen! Too bad I'm switching my pizza day to Saturday this week! Ah one more day emoticon

WID 153.0 emoticon Are you kidding me!? Not one single solitary tenth of a pound? Really?! I worked out 4 days this week (so far) and ate within calories every day except one and only went over by 50 that day! Well after I got on the scale I was so ticked I promptly went back to bed and said screw going out in the stinking cold to go run at the rec I'm going back to bed! I was so mad! But then I thought I need to let go of it. I just need to build some consistency and it will start coming off. There could be a million and two reasons for my lack of loss this week. The two that stuck out in my mind were that my calories were too low and that my hormones are all wacked out from the pills I'm taking (progesterone I think?). Then I looked back at my calories and they weren't as low as I thought. Sat and Sun I was under calories but the other days I was in the middle to low range 2 days and then in the upper range 2 days. I should have been fine with that. But I wasn't hungry until last night. I so wanted to OINK OUT!!!!!!!! But I didn't. I told myself it was WID and I wanted to see some motivation. Fat lot of good that did me! I had 3 chocolate squares and I shoulda ate the whole damn candy bar! emoticon At first I was going to chuck the rest of the weekend after that WI. But then I cooled off and decided I will work out today or tomorrow. I will stay in calories today as planned. I will have my ONE splurge meal tomorrow night. And I will stay positive that the scale will move next week! emoticon It will move one way or another emoticon

Well sort of in the "sit and wait" department. She gave me 5 pills and I take one each day and she said within 5 days of the last pill I should start. So sit and wait but at least there is a time frame! emoticon

And I'm totally loving the HRM! Today it said I burned 50 calories more than I was estimating on SP doing one of my favorite videos emoticon I love checking my HR to see if I'm "in the zone" too. Only I found myself checking it and getting out of synch with the video sometimes. D'oh! emoticon

Stayed in cals yesterday, worked out this morning, about to go plan all my food for today. Trying to decide if I want to weigh in on Fri or Sat this week? I was thinking I'd do both and take the better of the two emoticon And next week I start Saturday weigh ins for sure. I also can't decide if I want to get up early and run at the rec tomorrow or not. I NEVER work out on Friday evenings like I say I will so it's either another rest day or an a.m. work out day. I probably should because Saturday might be a busy day and leave no time for a work out.

Three day weekend this weekend! YES! emoticon

Karen, So glad the Dr gave you the meds to start you up! : ) So, now you sit and wait until it starts??

Glad you got the heartrate monitor up and running as well! I think it is a helpful tool, especially helpful, if you are trying to burn a set number of calories a week. But I think it should be meant as a guideline, I really don't think it is exact. But it is an excellent motivator and if you are consistent with it, then the calories burned can be very helpful to you in determining the intensity of your workout!

Thanks Karen I think the doc was ok. My BP was still up but I took it at the pharmacy a couple hours later and although I think it messed up because of my sweater it was much MUCH lower. I think I'll use my moms bp cuff tonight and see what it says. Doc made me take a pregnancy test, negative. Ya you kinda have to have sex to get pregnant so no surprise there! emoticon Then she gave me some pills to start my period. She said she was surprised to see me so soon but after 2 months I was fed up. Oh and I got to have a fun physical exam for pregnancy too! Yippie! emoticon (please note the dripping sarcasm on that last comment)

Staci your hrm must have more bells and whistles than mine because I found it kinda easy to use. Course I was on the treadmill with the user manual trying to figure out what buttons to push! But I think once I use it a few times it will be pretty easy. It doesn't have more than one user setting so yours must be a fancier one than mine. Oh and get this! LMFAO! My treadmill came in at FOUR calories more than the HRM! I thought for sure it would be way off. I don't think I'll bother using the hrm when I use my treadmill in the future since it was so close, and I have to wash/rinse and dry the chest strap after each use. I wanted it more for outdoor running, exercise videos and other stuff that won't track my cals burned. The chest strap was very comfortable too! I totally loved it! I think I did my fitness test wrong though because it had my target hr kinda low. I pretty much stayed above my max target rate the whole time. It kept flashing a down arrow telling me to bring it down. But I felt good and kept going. Maybe it was that I had it set on "moderate" and not "intense" exercise? I don't know.

I went over cals slightly last night and had a skinny cow and a bread stick with dinner. Checked in with the scale today, 152.8. Not that great considering it's been an awsome week for me with calories and exercise! Pffttttt! emoticon Anyways today is an exercise rest day. I haven't been on the wagon for a while and I think it's wise to take it a bit slow and build up to what I used to do. Tomorrow is an exercise video and we'll see how the hrm compares to SP's estimate of cals burned!

that's so awesome that your hubby has joined weight watchers! it's so much easier when you make a "team" effort. less chance for spousal sabotage - intentional or not.

yay for the new hrm!! polar is the brand i hear most often when people talk hrms. it's the kind i have too. not sure of the model though? like i said before, darn thing confounds me. emoticon hope you have fun with (and learn much from) your new "toy." emoticon

i hope the doctor appointment goes well, karen. breathe in; breathe out. let us know how it goes. thinking of you.... emoticon

It's so cute watching him add up all his "points." I think he might actually stick to the WW plan! I've even promised to move my WID to Saturday mornings and our splurge night to Saturday night for him emoticon At first I was panicked like "change my routine are you nuts!" But life is change and you gotta sometimes so it will be good for me, I hope. emoticon

Got my HRM last night! SO excited to use it! I wanted to this morning but I didn't quite have enough time to figure it all out last night to use it so early today so I'm going to run tonight and try it out. I got the Polar F6. I read some great reviews online and the girl at the store said it's one of the best sellers and consumer reports named it as their #1 recommended HRM.

I have a dreaded doctor appt. at 1:15 today:( I haven't updated this in a while but I still have not had my stupid period! November 17th was the last one. I KNEW I should have told my doc to shove it up her a$$ when she told me to stop the pill emoticon It's really putting a strain on my marriage at this point. She will make me do a stupid pregnancy test, which will probably cost me a billion dollars when I could get one for $10 at the store:( but she'd better give me something to start my stupid period as she promised to do back in November! GRRRRRRRRRRRR!

I should try to relax before I go, or my stupid BP will be high, again. emoticon

You're doing awesome, Karen....While we all want to look at where we COULD be by now, we have to focus on where we are. You have lost and maintained alot of weight and that is awesome!!!!! We all have good and bad days, weeks, months but getting back on track is the most important part. Keep your chin up and be proud of every little accomplishment!!!!

Welp, didn't run Friday, nor did I get that HRM! I was a total slug this weekend! I did have my pizza Friday night but was good Sat and Sun and even ran on the treadmill on Sunday. Got up and did a 30 min video today too:) My cals all weekend (except fri) were super low but that's ok because like I said I was a slug other than that run on Sunday. I slept, a lot! But going for the HRM tonight because I plan to get up and run at the rec tomorrow and would love to use the track and not the treadmill. So it would be nice to have that HRM to log all my stats:) That is if I can figure the thing out before I go to bed tonight. It was tough getting up today but now that it's over it really helps remind me why I do the a.m. work outs in the first place! Hubby is asleep, mom is getting ready for work, dogs are sleepy and out of my way, I have the WHOLE living room all to myself and the best part is it's OVER before my day even begins emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

Hubby joined Weight Watchers this weekend. He has a co-worker who lost like 70 pounds on it and he went to the meeting with him. He sounds really excited about it and was tracking his points all weekend. I hope it works for him. SP didn't seem to be his "thing" so we'll see how WW goes. Not to mention, when hubby eats healthy it really helps ME to be good too:) emoticon

Thanks for the battery info Karen. I think I'm going to exchange it tomorrow. I tried to use mine one last time last night and somehow stopped the calorie counter at like 8 minutes. I really wanted to compare it to my treadmill with the right settings but oh well!

Official WI- 153.0 AH whatever! It's funny to be disappointed by a whopping .2 pounds higher than yesterday! I am trying not to think about it but seriously considering skipping the pizza tonight:( But if I do I'll have to wait a whole week more to have it so I might as well go ahead today. I want to go running at the rec tonight before pizza though. That should help. Have only been doing cardio this week but this weekend I'll start with some ST.

Hi Karen! I cannot even remember if I have ever changed the battery, and mine is old and I use it ALOT! So, I guess if I have had it changed, I got it changed locally too.

Weigh in for you is not bad!! Mine was higher than I wanted, but that will make the results even greater!

i went to a batteries plus store and they changed the battery for me. (just paid for the battery, not for them to install it.) it never even occurred to me to send it to the company? i just walked into the battery store. emoticon but, they didn't act like it was anything outlandish or extraordinary. so, there's that bit of info, for what it's worth..... emoticon

well, so much for the group classes then, eh? but, that's ok. if what you were looking for was more of a "gym" anyway, it suits your needs perfectly.

Ha I agree on the pizza Staci! emoticon And no I've never done a group class before. They do offer them at the rec but they cost extra:( And you pay the instructor and not the rec so they are probably not employed by the rec or something? They have spinning and starting this month they have Zumba and I think a couple others. Men's basketball, lot of good that does me! But of course they are all offered when I'm at work! Blah!

I've heard good things about the polar hrm's but also heard you have to send it back to polar for battery changes? One reviewer said it cost her $50 in shipping costs and took a month to get back and then it wasn't done correctly. I'm hoping to find one I can change the battery myself. And thanks for your thoughts on the chest strap. Really helps me decide:)

there's my girl ... jumping back in the saddle with spurs on.... emoticon *grin*

the hrm i have is a polar. it has the chest strap. i know it's there, but i don't find it annoying. like a bra, i suppose. mine allows all those weight/age/gender inputs. for up to four users. emoticon then there's a fitness test that takes your base fitness ability and tells you what your target hr should be. it somehow uses all that information to tell you how long you stayed in target heart rate and how many calories you burned in any given workout. i don't know. i find it terribly confusing. there's so many tiny buttons and combinations of this button and another to get to certain features. i can't figure the stupid thing out. i do know when i had it up and running, the hrm consistently showed a larger burn than the treadmill. i suppose that's because the treadmill is just an "average person's" calorie burn. (likely male; likely fit.)

the rec center seems like a perfect option. do they offer classes of any sort? i never hear you talk about attending any group classes. maybe that's not your style? i'm dying to take a zumba class, but they're so freakin' expensive ... and hard to find. i hope you and your husband get a lot of use out of your membership. it sounds ideal. (close and reasonably priced.)

4.6 pounds is not bad at all. you should totally eat the pizza on friday. you know you'll work it off. 4.6 pounds in 2 months isn't worth pizza deprivation. emoticon

I know you all are chomping at the bit to read my latest updates! emoticon So here it is. I messed with the HRM again last night and did find a function to input age and gender. Not weight though. I might check out youtube to see if there are verbal instructions for that thing (hubby said there prob would be on there). I was exercising as a 30yo male. D'OH! In my defense the instruction book completely ignored that function! Not even mentioned! I was going through the different screens and couldn't figure that one out and when I started changing the settings I noticed one went from an almost unrecognizable "M" to an "F" and there was a big A next to a number I assume is for your age. Tried as I might I could not find anywhere to enter weight. I plan to use the monitor for my work out tonight to see how it compares with the SP estimation of my calorie burn for the same work out tape. But I probably will still exchange it for one with a chest strap. I hope it's not uncomfortable. It kinda sucks to stop working out to take my HR several times during the routine.

Stayed in cals yesterday, no work out, and joined the rec center for a one month trial. I really hope it works because it will be nice to have another option for exercise to keep from getting bored. Especially in winter. emoticon $22 for a one month family membership is not bad at all! Plus if we decide to sign up for a whole year there is a discount on that too:)

Took a sneak peek weigh in today. 152.8 but I FEEL way worse than that. I told myself yesterday that if it's 154 or under I can still have pizza this Friday night emoticon I guess 4.6 pounds since Thanksgiving really isn't all that bad since I have been just horrible with eating and exercise. But I'm sure I've lost some muscle tone too:( I'm not going to dwell on that though, I'm motivated to get back into it! emoticon

I agree Karen! And after talking to you and reading a SP article on HRM I've decided to take mine back and exchange it. For a few dollars more I can get one with a chest stap and not have to do the stupid finger test over and over and I can get one that I input more info into. It won't cost me but about $30-$50 more and it's totally worth it to me to have it easier and more accurate. I'll use the thing for a long long time! I did look up reviews on mine before I opened it but I guess it's a new model and I could only find like 3 reviews and two were good so I decided to try it out. Below is the defining paragraph from the SP article. I originally wanted one with a chest strap anyways, but hubby picked this one out for me so I felt bad taking it back:( Thanks so much for your help on this!!!!!!! I think I'll be out shopping at Dick's this weekend:)

"Consider the ease of use when making your choice. Most monitors come with a watch and chest strap. That makes it very easy to monitor your stats during your workout. However, there are a few that don't require a chest strap, instead detecting your pulse by placing one or two fingers on sensor buttons. These cannot give you a constant reading of your pulse and are not as accurate as the chest strap models. In addition, it can be difficult to stop your workout, put your fingers on the sensors, wait for a reading, and then resume the workout. "

I think that the numbers seem right too. However, I don't know how the HRM can calculate how many calories you are burning without knowing other factors, such as weight or age.

Maybe take an average of what the treadmill says and HRM? Not exact, I know.

No the HRM does not ask you to input any info:( The booklet says how to calculate the baseline for male or female depending on your age. Like for a woman it was 226-age= ? It comes up to 191 for me but it does not ask you to input that info. But like if I was at 115 bpm I'd be at 115/191 and it would equal 60% max which is actually what the thing is saying for me. And yes when I was at 80% I could go harder. I took it kind of easy because I forgot to use my inhaler before and was having a bit of an asthma problem. Which is also why I wondered why the cals were so high? I took it kinda easy. My biggest fear is that it takes your HR by you putting your finger on the metal face plate and what if I'm doing it wrong or the thing is crap and it's doing it wrong. The HR numbers do sound right, the calories don't. It seemed to come up with the same numbers each time I was running (155-65) and the same numbers each time I was walking (135ish). If I really burned 500 calories last night I need to change my daily calorie intake. Maybe this whole HRM thing wasn't such a good idea. Like it's not confusing enough right!!!!!! emoticon

That is the tricky thing! What to use. I really think that the HRM is more accurate. Mine does not give me cals burned. : (

Does the HRM know your age? See, that is what I was talking about. If I used a HRM and I used my real age, my numbers would be really high for my age, therefore the HRM would think that I was working out really really hard and burning a ton of calories.

Let me re-read your post.

I re-read, I think you will need to play with the HRM to see if the numbers seem good to you while you exercise. When you were in the upper 80%'s could you go harder?

I'm totally confused! I used my HRM last night. It said I burned like 70 calories more than my treadmill said? I made sure to take my HR often because I was doing intervals, maybe that's why? I took before I started, a couple times durning warm up, tried to take it often during the work out just after a sprint and then again just before I started the next sprint and again during cool down and stretching. It was saying that 115 BPM was 60% max and mostly I was going around the 135(walking)-155(running) range. I didn't notice till the end that there is a teeny tiny number next to the BPM with my % max. If grade school math still works that means that the 135 was 70% and the 155 was 81% and it did spike up to 165 a couple times too for 86%. So which is more accurate? The treadmill asks for me to enter my weight and then it tracks incline and speed. What if that HRM is totally off? By the time I had finished my cool down and stretching it said I had burned 504 calories! I worked out on the treadmill for 35 minutes (getting off like 4 times for various things so the watch said more like 38 minutes). So what do I log? The treadmill said 290 calories in 35 minutes and the HRM said about 360 in the same amount of time? Plus another 140 by the time I finished stretching? And yes I continued to take my HR several times during stretching. UGH! How do I know what's right? I expected the HRM to say less, not more. And having the calories burned so far apart could really affect what I should be eating!

I'm pretty sure I stayed within calories last night. Had the yummiest portobella burger emoticon , butternut squash and green beans. And left overs for tonight emoticon MMMMMMMM:) No exercise tonight because we have my stepdaughter and it's euchre playing time! We taught her to play over the holiday and now we're all addicted. I may walk on the treadmill after she goes home but we'll probably go sign up at the rec center since we didn't last night.

Anyone know anything about HRM????????

See, I think 70% is way too low. Like you will not feel like you are working out. For example in spinning, 70% is the low part of the work out. 70% would be an endurance workout to me (not very challenging). Probably not very challenging to you either. I am guessing if you are jogging on the treadmill, you will see 85-90%, and if you were walking a brisk pace, you would be around 75-80%, and a walk at not such a brisk pace, but not easy would be 70%.

I think it will become much clearer when you actually see what numbers you are getting.

Ok I'll have to keep that in mind. It came with a HR chart and mine does not have a chest strap. I was going to buy one with a chest strap because I've heard they are more accurate but hubby picked the wrist one out so we'll see. So what % do you shoot for? 70%? I think that is what mine recommended.

So I guess you have the heart of a 30 year old? Not bad!!! emoticon

I have a polar HRM that has the strap you wear around your chest and a wrist watch thing. It is an old one (maybe 7 yrs). Not alot of bells and whistles. It does give the average heartrate when my workout is done.

One thing I would suggest is printing off a heartrate chart and taking it with you to exercise. See how the numbers feel to you. As I understand it, if you can reach the maximum heart rate (100%), then you probably need to bump the max up, as you should not really be able to reach the maximum. By bumping the Max up, all the other percentages go up as well. Most heartrate charts use age as the determining factor. But for me, if I use 41 yo, it is way too easy of a workout. I am currently using a 30 yo chart. There might also be some good information here on SP about heartrate targets.

HA Karen, I was posting my daily "book" while you were posting. What kind of HRM do you have? Just curious. And I feel like I'm always "still here!" emoticon But that's a good thing:) I'm glad to see you back too Karen! I've missed ya (if I may get mushy:)

You know Mel that is exactly what I do every year! Lose from Jan-May and then maintain, and gain a few over the holidays. Usually starting each year about 10 pounds down from the previous one. I am content with that too:) Although this year may be the goal weight year! And ya Staci, what the heck do I do after that! One of my friends who is a runner suggested we run a marathon together. I thought that sounded kinda cool. I mean how many people can say they ran a marathon? But she had fractured both legs last year and it was from running! Hairline fractures all up and down her legs so not looking good to train for that marathon with her this year:( LOL on the HRM! I was reading my instructions and cursing at the dang thing when I opened it too! But I think I've got it and hopefully it's accurate enough. It's a wrist one and you touch the metal face plate to take the HR. The only thing it doesn't do that I wish it did was count distance traveled. I'll have to still use the fitness maps for that or count laps around the track if I don't use the treadmill. And it's funny but I used to use that rec center when I lived with my mom years ago and when we moved back it just never occurred to me to join again! Even though I pass it like 4 times a day! My mom suggested it to me and I was like "DUH!"

So I went shopping last night and got a bunch of yummy healthy food, started reading my Eat Clean Diet book for some motivation (pretty good so far too) and I'm trying to decide what sounds good for a work out tonight:) I'm thinking my good old reliable treadmill. I think he has missed me:) And I haven't listened to my MP3 player in a while so I can visit some old favorite music there too.

I already have cabin fever! Come on spring/summer! emoticon
