Aw Kelly, haven't done the 10s in a while. Ever since my elbow started acting up. I'm pretty sure it was the pushups and the lifts that aggravated it. The crackling sound when I did them should have been a give away but I tried to ignore it. Anyway, I should replace those two with something else but I need to think on that a bit.

Yesterday was better. Still a little tired and had to go to Costco so no work out. But over 11,000 steps so that helped.

Last night I tried some relaxation exercises when I went to bed. Then in the night, when I woke up, I did them again. It really seemed like they helped me to fall back asleep a little faster. Still waking up which I'd like to eliminate but if I can fall back asleep, it seems like that's half the battle. Big day today with a presentation on the docket so it's good that I feel a little better!

Walking is good... and do your 10's!
Hope you can get that crud out of your head and into a workable solution!

Good job on the workout Kelly. I've been eyeballing a Zumba DVD. It really sounds like fun. I love to dance and sometimes just put on music and do it. Might be fun to have someone show me how sometime!

Off to a rough start this morning. Remember how I said that this job didn't keep me up at night like the other one? Well, some bombs got dropped on me the past couple of days and the remnants were rattling around for much of last night. I think I have a workable solution but now I have to present it and see how hard it will be to accomplish. Be nice to get that off my plate.

No choir tonight but I do have to go to Costco so a workout is unlikely. I will get in a lot of walking today so that will help anyway.

That's perfect... and part of functioning as a family, I think! Mom can't always be the one sacrificing her time, right? And I'm sure the kids were happy to get food at the mall!

Glad you got your workout in. Me too - did some cardio videos in front of the tv, which I haven't done in a long time. Tougher than I remembered... but not a run! Rain for a few days here...

Have another healthy day girlfriend!

Thanks Kelly! Great news from the doc! All your hard work has paid off. I hope I can do nearly as well. I'm going to have to suck it up and go some day.

I did work out and I do feel better. Just intervals on the treadmill again and some body weight exercises. It really took a lot of convincing to get myself to do it. Had kind of a hard day. So I decided not to cook. The kids were already going to the mall so they'll get something there. And Chris will just have to find something to eat at the store tomorrow. All so I could work out. Worth it for me anyway!

We had wonderful weather for our holiday weekend. Supposed to rain for the next few days and be HOT, but nice again for the weekend.

I didn't work out yesterday either and felt guilty because the weather was SO gorgeous. However, we did do about 5 hours of hiking between Sat & Sun, so I guess a day of rest was probably ok. I do need to figure out a workout for today, though... probably time for a run!

Just got my blood work back from my physical and everything is good - even my cholesterol which used to be very high - and is an issue on both sides of my family. Here's hoping that this new lifestyle continues to help with that!

Let me know what you choose to do for your workout, Mar! You KNOW you'll be glad you made time for it!

Have a great day!

Thanks Kelly. It was another good day. But no work out. Got a little busy trying to get Jake's graduation picture. I refuse to spend the $1000 most photographers around here charge. And he's not really cooperative anyway. Doing it ourselves gives us a chance to get something that's more him. It certainly doesn't look professional but we can live with that.

Anyway, so it was a busy night. I'm hoping Chris doesn't need me to go to Costco tonight so I can work out. If he does, I may try to anyway and just have a late dinner. But there's no choir this week so that gives me a few more options.

Really nasty weather today. This is more like typical May here except that it's a bit colder than usual. In my present state, I really don't mind that too much! I'll still be happy when the nicer weather comes back. Hopefully in time for the holiday weekend.

Arrgh! Early day as we are doing a system upgrade and someone brought in a giant box of donuts! This is going to take everything I've got!

I can go two ways to the break room. Only one of them goes past the donuts. I'm making every effort to go the other way.

Wish me luck!

Thanks Kelly! And I didn't expect you to be there to ask me. Sometimes, you just gotta focus on your partner. So it's good there was no wi-fi.

So, another year without a triple crown. Orb was really a disappointment. Beautiful horse though. Easier day today. I have laundry to do and Chris asked me to get rid of some wood for him. So I'm burning it in the chiminea. It's not a really warm day but the fire is keeping me toasty out here. Tonight everyone is home so we're having steaks. Nice to have the whole family here for dinner at least one day a week!

Well, I'm going to tell you anyway! I was off and running by about 7 am. And I did get up workout. I feel so good for having done it. And so far, I'm sticking to my food plans. I have another healthy meal in the crock pot for dinner and I'm ready for the Preakness. Go Orb!!

Okay, I have to crow just a little bit. Is that okay? It is my journal. I know what my friend Kelly would say!

So, it really has been a great week. I'm figuring out some of my sleep issues. I think I'll stick with the melatonin for a while. But also, back to ibuprofen and I'm going to stick with that, even though I don't really like that option. But if the elbow is keeping me awake, then I need the help.

I had two really great work outs this week and the other days were very active with a lot of walking. And I also filled those days with other things that helped me get more organized, not just for food but work and making time to exercise too.

After just five days, I have more energy. And I'm happy about the way things have gone. This is how I want my life to be. Full of energy and activities that help me and truly make my life more fun. None of it really felt like work this week. So my only question, if it feels this good, why do I always stop at some point? But that's a negative. I want to stick with the positive for now.

Today was my early day. Yet when I got home, I didn't feel like just sitting still or taking a nap like I usually do. I bought some new plants last week on my trip to Flower World. Some for inside and some for outside. So today, I put them all (but one) in their planned places. The one I didn't finish with was because I need a new pot for it. I didn't realize that the one I was replacing was in an ugly blue pot. Our living room is a warm red and gold. I think I'll go shopping for a new pot and hanger for that one tomorrow.

After my surgery last year, I just didn't water my indoor plants and most of them died. Then this one plant that I've had for about 30 years (seriously) pushed up new growth, in spite of not having been watered in months. That inspired me. So I replaced the ones that died (most of them) and will try to doctor the ones that still show signs of life. That inspirational plant will get re-potted as soon as I'm sure it's strong enough to handle the stress. It deserves it!

So now I'm finally relaxing. I have a healthy dinner in the crock pot and I'm enjoying a Margarita (yes, it's in my tracker). I've again stuck to all my plans today. The Margarita is it though. I'm convinced that the lack of alcohol during the week is part of what's helping with my sleep issues. Now I'm watching the Mariners who just had two stellar showings against the Yankees but are down right now in the fourth. Only by one so there's hope. Remember, I'm focusing on the positive!

Oh, and I love my FitBit!!

Really pushed myself on the treadmill with a shorter version and then finishing on the stair stepper. Still going very easy on that as I can't lean on my arms for sure. I'm not supposed to anyway so I'm trying to work up to it as I did before to see if I can avoid that habit as I get stronger.

Early Friday but I got to bed early and slept well so I'm not as tired as I usually am on Friday's. Really great because there's some things I'd like to get done this afternoon.

Thanks Kelly! Hope you had a nice dinner with the family.

Yesterday wasn't quite like the day before. I mean I did really well with food again and got in more that 10,000 steps, but no extra exercise. I didn't have to go to Costco which was nice but I was pretty tired when I got home. So I tried for a little nap before choir. Didn't really get to sleep I don't think but the rest helped.

I was sure glad I had the food all ready. The salad was really good as always and I even had some left over for lunch today. Choir was short and I had a brief visit with my Mom after. So I got to bed a little later than usual and still managed about 6 hours of sleep. The elbow was better last night so at least I didn't have that keeping me up.

Tonight, another treadmill workout. I'm actually kind of looking forward to it. Then an easy dinner and early to bed. Tomorrow is early Friday!

What a fantastic day, Mary! Sounds like you're well prepared for today as well.. way to go!
Yes - sounds like it's time to take the next step for that elbow, my friend!

We are taking the girls out for dinner tonight to celebrate as a family - going to try to really be diligent through the day so I can enjoy a nice meal out.

Hope yours is great - I'm really proud of you girlfriend!!!

So this was my day yesterday. The up and down the stairs part was a good start but I still didn't get much extra walking. I was stellar with food choices, talking myself past every temptation, so that's a good thing. I'm all organized at work now too and focusing on my new projects which makes the day less stressful. But the day really got going when I got off work.

First to the grocery store to pick up the things I had forgotten the day before. Then home to put on some rice and put some chicken in marinade (actually for tonight's dinner) then got dressed and did 40 minutes on the treadmill. I tried to do a little interval work but pushing it for me right now is pretty tame for most. I need to read up on that some more to be sure I have it right. I also did some stretches and a few strength exercises after the cardio. I haven't been too good about my afternoon workouts so it was nice to get that done.

Next to the kitchen. Made a nice stir fry for dinner and packed up meals for Chris and Colleen. Sat down to eat and relax for a few minutes. Then off and running again. I cleaned up the kitchen, and then put the marinated chicken on the grill so it would be ready for salads tonight (choir night). While it was cooking, I cut up veggies for lunches for the rest of the week, packed today's lunch and finished folding laundry. Also went through my bed time routine so I could get to bed early.

My main focus for yesterday was to just get everything off my list. That along with increased activity, I was hoping would help me sleep better. It's typical for me to leave stuff until morning but I didn't want to wake up and have stuff rolling around in my head. It almost worked. I definitely slept better last night but the tendonitis in my elbow. has gotten pretty bad. I woke up to it throbbing and it kept me awake for a part of the night. Still, I'd gotten to bed so early that I managed a decent night's sleep. I feel better today than I have in days. I'm tired of the pain though. I'm going to have to suck it up and pay that deductible I think. Time to get the doc involved in this one.

Oh yeah, one more thing. 15,410 steps, 6.8 miles, 22 flights of stairs, 7.6 hours of sleep.

Great day!

Well now there's a way to get extra exercise. They are painting the restroom on my floor today. So I have to go downstairs to use the restroom. And I drink a lot of water!

I didn't have any luck with melatonin, but I know some people swear by it. I did start taking magnesium at bedtime, and it helps a little.

I am FINALLY sleeping again - most nights unmedicated. The difference has been the big change in activity. I'm sure once you're back on your bike/ getting in some good workouts, the sleep will start to come again!

It is a very frustrating thing... I was beside myself this past winter with the very same thing - falling asleep no problem, but waking way too early and not getting back to sleep.
Sigh.

Wish you a busy day and sweet dreams!

Welcome Kelty and good luck. It's been a struggle for me but it's in my head and not in the program. If you work with it, it will work for you.

I'm pretty tired today. Throat is better so it must just be allergies. Still something to deal with but I don't think I'm really getting sick. At least I hope not. Back at work anyway.

My brother suggested I try melatonin to help with my sleep issues. He says it works great for him. So I tried it last night. I did fall asleep pretty fast but then, that's rarely an issue for me. I still woke up in the night and struggled getting back to sleep. I don't think last night was any better than any other night. So we'll see. I'll try it a few more times to see how it goes.

I am going to try again to get healthy. I love sweets so much. I have watched my weight creep up again. Two years ago I lost 45-50 pounds and kept it off but now my weight is back up again. My job is stressful but rewarding. I just need to get focused on what is really important. My kids and husband are great supports for me. I just need to tell myself that I can do this for me. Any encouragement would help. Thanks.

Good for you, Mar!
Flowers need to wait here... mother nature is playing a cruel mother's day joke and sent snow today!

I'm hoping my urge to take care of the gardens will kick in soon though!
Enjoy!

Oh, and our sunshine is gone. The rain pounding on the roof last night woke me up. But it's a good sound. My flowers are happy and they got watered for free!

Thanks Kelly! Same to you. Church and a few things to do and then I'm off to my Mom's for the afternoon. Should be nice. All the local siblings will be there. That makes four of us.

Been a busy weekend. I headed out to Flower World yesterday. It's a gigantic nursery about 25 minutes from here but it's worth the trip. Their plants are spectacular and the prices are very good. During all the difficulties I had last year, I let all my indoor plants die. But one tough one that I've had for about 30 years pushed up new growth this spring anyway, in spite of not having been watered for months. That one inspired me and so I bought it some friends.

I like having indoor plants. They freshen the air and look nice. And I'm usually good at taking care of them. Last year was just too much for me. I'm lucky I didn't lose half my garden as well with all the neglect. But I feel more like doing that stuff now so to me, it was worth the expense to replace those ones that I lost.

And I got a few more things for the outdoors too. Lost a few fuschias in the planting process and needed something new for the pots on my porch. I think I'm done buying for this year and will work with what I have.

I made this one last night...recipes.sparkpeople.com/recipe-detail.asp?
recipe=86382
except I skipped the avocado (because I didn't have one) and I made a honey-lime dressing that I found online. YUMMY!
My hubby, who usually doesn't go for 'meal salads' loved it and felt very satisfied!

I'm feeling kind of tired today too, Mar. It does weaken the resolve.
So, even more important to make good decisions in advance! We can BOTH do it.
Hang in there!

Well, I'm unlikely to top yesterday. No extra meeting today. And I'm pretty tired with not enough sleep. Today I intend to get organized so I can keep all my projects straight. At the moment, I'm not even sure how many I'm handling. I'm going to have to clean out my email to find everything. But once I'm organized, I'm ready to go.

It's good work to do when I'm tired like this. It should keep me busy most of the day and hopefully it'll go by quickly. I have to be extra diligent with my food plans on days like to day because my resolve is weakened when I'm tired. It's also going to be a bit warmer again today so I have that to watch out for too.

Chicken salad last night was great and I have leftovers for lunch today. Going to try to make it another good one!

That's fantastic! I was so glad I went out for a quick half-hour walk yesterday, because the evening got away from me (busy with the kids) and I didn't get out like I had hoped. Now the weather is not so nice. humph.

Hoping the skies will clear this evening so I can get in a run!

Happy fit-bitting... hope you have another great day!

12,874 steps today! 33 flights of stairs! And I'm not done yet. Still have to make dinner and I have choir. This is my biggest Fitbit day yet! No wonder I had to snooze on the bus. I feel pretty good now!

Yeah! All is well. I just had an early meeting and a bunch of stuff to get done before it so I put off checking in until now. Thanks for checking on me though. No worries!

Having a pretty good day, well a great day really. The meeting was on something I find very interesting and is probably going to turn out to be a huge project. That's always exciting. And I just turned over the last of my project to an old team member. Was supposed to be last Friday but stuff happens. Anyway, a giant load has been taken off. This afternoon, I'm getting a new computer so it's time to get organized so that I can really dive into all my new projects. This should be fun!

I'm sorry you're in pain, girlfriend - particularly when it affects your sleep. I think they just compound each other.
Now, I would LOVE a day of 87... IF I could be outside to enjoy it!

Take care!

Oh it is Kelly, but not as hot as yesterday thank goodness. We shattered our record high with 87! Nearly unheard of in May around here. In fact last year, I don't think we had our first day in the 80s until sometime in July. Needless to say, I didn't handle it really well. So hot in our office and I ended up going home early. I'm going to find someplace else on campus to work today if I can't keep cool.

I know about those busy days but they can be a workout too. I try to look at it that way anyway. It is nice to get that time outside by yourself though so I know what you mean. Enjoy your walk in the sunshine today!

The elbow's really bad this week and it's affecting my sleep. It's very hard to find a position that doesn't hurt it. I'm resorting to aspirin. Haven't taken it in years, really since the dawn of other OTC Nsaids but it does really work, better than ibuprofen I think. Aleve works well but it spikes my blood pressure. Just have to take aspirin so often. Years ago, I found a time-release aspirin but when I looked for it this time, I couldn't find it. Anyway, it sure does seem to always be something.

Good morning Sunshine!
Hope you had a good day yesterday and plans for a healthy one today?!

I desperately wanted a nice, long walk in the sunshine yesterday but alas, it was the 3rd "run from here to there from dawn til dusk' day that I've had in the last 6 days.... I fear my age is catching up to me as I'm not handling those days as well as I used to. AND, I get a little grumpy when I don't get time for my walk. Sigh.

That being said, everyone is healthy, the weather is still gorgeous and the kids have only one activity tonight SO I will DEFNITELY get a good walk in and not give any ground to the funk that wants to invade! I really notice a difference in my sleep when I'm working out well, so I really notice when I don't do what I should.

Anyway, I hope today is another beautiful day where you are too, my friend!
Have a wonderful one!

Isn't it frustrating when our bodies don't cooperate with our best laid plans? If I see one more article about squats and lunges being the best exercise for the lower body, I might scream! I've got lots of strength for them... but they baff my knees every time! SO... I understand how you're feeling with the elbow.

Sounds like a beautiful evening on the deck. We helped a friend clean up his yesterday as well and really enjoyed some time outside!

Here's to the beautiful weather - makes me SO happy!

Thanks Kelly! I hope you have a great day too.

Mine's starting just a little rocky. My usual poor sleep on Sunday and I'm really sore. I cleaned the deck yesterday. It's not a really big deck but there's a lot of railing on it. I can't remember how long ago it was that Chris put it up but it's at least five years, and I haven't really cleaned it in all that time so it needed it pretty bad. Took me a couple of hours in the hot sun. But when I was done, I was really pleased. We all sat out there in the evening and built a fire in the chiminea, ate our burritos and had a Margarita for Cinco de Mayo.

So now I'm icing my elbow as it has really flared the past few weeks. I'm trying to do my exercises and stretches. I'm pretty sure it was the push ups because that's when it really started to hurt. So those are off the list for now. I'm going to have to start with small weights for now and work my way up.

Thanks Kelly. I think I'll figure it out. Night is a challenge as well but at least I'm not around people, sweating and panicking. The furnace has been off for two weeks. I keep thinking someone will complain but it could be they don't dare. Colleen wears a coat all the time anyway. We look pretty funny together. Me in short sleeves, her in a coat with a fur lined hood!

Gorgeous day today. I need to get groceries and put dinner in he crock pot. Then out to the garden for some serious clean up and to plant my fuschias.

Until post time because it's Derby Day! I get to have my traditional mint julep. Funny because I'm not a big fan of bourbon and seldom drink hard liquor. So it takes me about 5 hours to drink it. By the end, it's mostly water and tastes okay. You're only supposed to sip bourbon anyway. But I'm still looking for someone to win that elusive Triple Crown. And the first race is the best because you still have hope that the winner can do it. Some day I will go to Kentucky for the Derby and I'll wear the big hat and everything. Likely won't place a bet but maybe a small one just to say I did. And I'll get to see some of the most beautiful and graceful athletes in the world. Bucket list for sure!

Oh boy... ain't it fun bein' a girl?! Sheesh!

I haven't really experienced hot flashed in the daytime yet... just night sweats so far. However, they are severe enough that my husband would like to get a king sized bed so he can find more distance between us! Oh dear!

I've seen those 'tumblers' around and yes, good cold water always helps.
Sorry to hear you're struggling with those, Mary. I hope your 'coping strategies' can help you get things under control.

Thinking of you girl...

Well I didn't take the bus today and I got no steps from the car so that's interesting. I'm sure the bus is just bumpier in general. I forgot to look last night when I headed home so I still don't know how much it added. I do know that when I pulled it out yesterday morning, we were at a particularly bumpy part of the road so maybe it's not as bad as I think. But the last two days on the bus were suspiciously high on the step count. We'll see how it works out.

Choir was short last night so we visited with my Mom a bit (Jake still goes to spend time with her on our choir nights) then headed home. I didn't get to bed too late and didn't come in quite as early as Monday. Still didn't sleep well, only getting about 6 hours of sleep. That's just not enough. We'll see how it goes tonight. I'd say I'll try to get to bed earlier but it doesn't always matter when I wake up a lot in the night and can't go back to sleep.

Don't know if I mentioned but I've had several hot flashes lately that have induced near panic attacks, where I just have to get out of wherever I am. One happened on the bus. It was all I could do to stay on it until my stop. The next time was in the house but the boys had it really hot. I was trying to finish something and get out and I ended up leaving before I was done. The third time was last Sunday at church. I had to leave and couldn't finish singing. I even tried to go back once after cooling off a bit and had to leave again, near tears. It's a little scary to have that happen. I remembered things I've learned to do to cope at work. One thing that works particularly well is drinking cold water. Nothing like taking the coolness right to the source. So I bought a big plastic cup with a lid and straw. It looks like a soda cup from a fast food place but it's insulated and reusable. I filled it with ice and water last night and took it to choir. The heat hit me once and I just took a big draw on it and it really worked. I have no idea if that incident would have been as bad as the one on Sunday but it's good to know there are things I can do. It's okay to take that cup on Sunday's too. Most of the singers sip water just because it helps them clear their throats. So mine's for a different reason but should still be okay.
