Getting off of SUGAR can certainly help. I've learned so much from Richard Bernstein M.D. who has lectures on YouTube. He has had Type 1 diabetes since he was 12 and he is a healthy 78 now. He treats mostly Type 2 diabetics in his practice and in his wonderful book THE DIABETES SOLUTION (I got it at the library) he has a great chapter on PCOS (Poly Cystic Ovary Syndrome) which he says most all obese young women have. He says ALL obese people are Insulin Resistant and can benefit from taking Metformin to help with weight loss.

Brionna,

You're right - you deserve to feel better! I wish you the best in your weight loss journey. I'm a grad student, and the best advice I could give you is to schedule and plan. As soon as things start to swirl is when I start to backslide. The more time you can spend (especially on the weekends) preparing, the less time it'll take you to get your exercise and healthy food in during the week.

Make sure your exercise plan is realistic for your class schedule. I have long days M/W, so I use my bike ride to/from school as my exercise for those days - I don't even try to go to the gym. But that means my rest day is during the week, instead of on the weekend, like most people. I get my most intense workouts in on Friday and Saturday, then I do a short "run" on Sunday.

I hope this helps. If there's anything I can do to help, definitely let me know!
Jen

i'm 19 5'8 and 310 pounds morbidly obese, I've been overweight for most of my life. I have a history of anxiety and depression. I've always felt older because of my limitations, sluggishness, and depression but now I'm ready to feel like the healthy young adult I know I can be! If anyone can help me stay motivated I'd greatly appreciate it and in return i'll help you as well! Good luck everyone! emoticon
