I go for using the real things myself. I find my stomach is more comfortable with them.

I feel so much better when I don't use artificial stuff! I only use real sugar, and for cooking I only use olive oil or real butter. You are right; they don't "break the bank" if they are used in healthy proportions. The real stuff also leaves me feeling more satisfied, so I need less. For example, I eat yogurt for breakfast. When I tried a low-calorie brand, it did not fill me up at all, but one small portion of a full-calorie type, along with a piece of fruit, will keep me going for several hours in the morning.

So glad you posted this. Except for the product (all Pepsi - no Coke) your story is mine....right back to starting with Tab! The stockpile in my house is a bit larger than yours, but I am trying to limit myself to 24 oz or less per day. At that rate I should run out by late September. Thinking about taking some to school and leaving it in the fridge....pretty sure it will disappear. Good luck as you work through your addiction. I'll be journeying with you.

Hi Kendalyn, It is helpful to know that others out there have this addiction to diet coke. Just when you described how it feels to drink one, my mouth was watering! Funny, though it is hard to not drink more than one, those following the first are never as good That doesn't stop me. Sll of the 7-11's around here went bankrupt many years a go. emoticon Have a great Spark day. Tersa

Thanks for the note, ANTI,
I am going to give it a try, but plan to limit the stevia to fresh squeezed lime aid, which I enjoy very much. I'm looking forward to the day when cola no longer has a hold on me. It truly is an addiction emoticon

Hi Nans4girls, I have picked and tasted the stevia plant at an organic herb farm. It is sweet!
Al though I have used it from time to time, I did not consider it at this time. I think that it would be great in fresh squeezed lime aid, which I really enjoy in the summer. Thanks, I will give it a try. emoticon

I too switched to Stevia, but check carefully, some of them contain Dextrose. I fine it does not leave a bad after taste. My doctor said it has not been proven that this is better than Splenda, Equal, etc., as many drugs come from Plants, and that does not make them good for us !!!!

I gave up diet sodas of all kinds when I figured out the sodium benzoate in them was making me ill, with flu-like symptoms including fatigue. Now and then I will drink a full sugar soda, one without a benzoate preservative in it, but I'm losing my taste for any soda completely. It is hard to give up, but once you do, it is hard to go back.

I have switched to stevia to sweeten my coffee. Have you tried it? If so, what do you think of it?

I'm on the Don't Eat Crap nutrition plan.

Why is Diet Coke so hard to give up?? I avoid all artificial sweeteners whenever possible, read food labels and refuse to buy yogurt/juice/diet food with offenders in the nutrition information. Like, zero. AND YET...I *know* that Diet Coke is pure caffeine and chemicals, and I *know* that if I drink just one I will crave other sweets/carbs for the rest of the day. BUT STILL...I will pick one up at the gas station/check stand/mom's house, and it tastes to good and it's so refreshing that I want another one right away! I had been almost completely off it for months, maybe having one a month when I'm out shopping, until I went on vacation to my mom's house. She keeps a separate fridge just for Diet Coke, and I ended up drinking 2-3 cans a day for two weeks. I'm home from vacation now and don't keep it in my house, so I'm trying to avoid the urge to pick one up every time I pass a 7-Eleven. But it gets easier! Keep up the good work.

Evening first day!
I had one diet coke, SOOO much better then the usual 4-5 a day. I used real sugar 2 times when I normally woul have opted for the fake stuff. It didn't break the calorie bank. I have 3 12 packs of diet coke on had, so I will be using it. My goal is to gradually get it out of my life!!!

I have been living on sugar free soda since my teenage years when Tab was induced. Yes I am that old. My body has been that corrupted! I'm addicted to Coke free, and other diet drinks, I use splenda in my baking and cereal and fruit smoothies. The diet industry LOVES me.
In spite of using these chemicals to satisfy my sweet tooth, I am still obese!!!
Yesterday, I read the SP article regarding the risks of these artificial sweeteners. It struck me when I read that in spite of heavy use n this country, the obesity rate is growing ! Well, here I am fighting with my weight, loosing the battle while I drink my diet coke, and put chemicals in my wholesome smoothies!
So today, I am starting a journey to free myself from the artificial and when in need of sweet, use the real. I will be journaling my journey here. Hope to have others join me, and encourage me.
Happy Sparking All emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon
