How awesome that you quit smoking "just like that". That's another tough habit to break. I know! I did it too: November 11, 1976! And I couldn't be happier for you. You are off to a great start to getting healthy! You go Girl!

Wow,

Thank you all for your great words of wisdom and encouragement! I will keep them very close to my heart.

Last November, I decided to quit smoking because I wanted to make a positive impact in my life. And you know what? I did it just like that. I hated the habit and got the courage to do it,..and that is what I stuck to. I believe that I can do this...it is just a matter of "doing" it and sticking to it.

I have also felt like I am in a rut since time restraints have been added to my life. I use to have all the time in the world to exercise and plan my meals. I maintained a healthy weight but now I too, have had some lifestyle changes. It is challenging! I think keeping it simple, might help, when you have a full schedule or at least a schedule you are trying to adjust too. I am still trying to figure it out myself. Love-Patty

Hey Jan,

Don't give up. This is coming from someone who is returning to the work force after being in school for 8 years straight (A.A.S., B.A, M.A.). Even though I was blessed to go straight through w/o working BUT I had my challenges. Try having a set time and/or days you plan to go. Plan and make your meals on a Sunday for the entire week. Best of luck! Let me/us know how things are going!

It's got to be tough handling full time job and school. I certainly don't envy you. You're challenge is a tough one, but as I see it, the first decision you made was a great one. You asked for help!

There are so many ways to stay positive about your efforts. One of many ways is to do a search on the internet (Google or Bing) for positive reinforcement quotes and posters. Or access all the motivational quotes on Spark. You will find them under the header Articles & Videos above and then fourth position down on the left column is Motivation. Click on that and you will find pages and pages of motivational posters. You can print them off if you like or if you are on Pinterest, pin them to your boards there. Or just go there every day and read 3 or 4 or 5 or as many as you have time for in your busy day. So many of them seem to speak directly to me. Maybe reading these daily will help you out.

Second, don't get discouraged if you "messed up" today. That's why God gives us tomorrows. You will do better. Just stay positive about your fitness (all you need is 10 minutes a day and with a little creativity, maybe you can find ways to sneak the 10 minutes in while you are working or while you are in school.

Third, read as many of the articles on Spark as you can that are directed toward people like you with busy lives. There are many ways to pack up a healthy lunch, so you don't have to run to a fast food place. There are also helpful hints for keeping healthy snacks at your work station or in your bag or purse that will keep you on track for your nutrition.

Last, but not least, make sure you are getting enough rest. Not getting enough sleep can greatly throw off your success in losing weight. Sleep is one of those things that seem to elude a busy person like yourself, but whenever possible close your eyes for a few minutes and just do some deep breathing to cleanse your mind and your lungs.

Best of luck to you. I will be thinking of you. Stay positive...

Every day we get a brand new 24 hours to start fresh. Stick with Spark, it has definitely helped my motivation!

I'm quirky, silly, blunt, and broken. My days are sometimes too dark, and my nights are sometimes too long. I often trip over my own insecurities. I require attention, long for passion, and wish to be desired. I use music to speak when words fail me, even though words are as important to me as the air I breathe. I love hard and with all that I have... and even with my faults, I am worth loving.- Dany Grayson

I read somewhere that we make over 200 food choices and decisions daily. That's alot of temptations and chaos, so take it one decision at a time. Make one right choice, one healthy decision and then another one. The small changes will lead to big changes and good health. It's a slow, hard journey but it will make a healthy lifestyle a permanent choice. Good luck! You've already started by making the decision to make a change for the better.
