i think your accomplishment is terrific. I certainly hope my venture is as successful. I have 95 pounds to lose. I started healthy eating in jan 1,2014. I have lost 25 pounds. I plateaued for several months. last week I finally dropped 3 pounds, woohoo. hopefully it will continue. wish me luck. again congratulations on your success to healthy eating and losing unwanted weight.

Thanks everyone! I have lost another 3 pounds since I wrote this last week. When I stopped the low fat low cal approach and switched to low sugar low starchy carbs it seemed like the weight came off faster. I eat lean proteins, veggies, and low sugar fruit, and healthy oils.
Another thing I did was figure out how many calories perday I needed to eat if I was at 160, my goal weight. 10 calories per pound=1600 cals. Then I chopped off 400 cals for weightloss at 160 pounds. That is how I arrived at my calorie range of 1200. Considering I was eating 2500-3000 plus cals a day when overweight, it was a drastic reduction.
My advice---Eat like the weight you want to be at goal now.
Thanks everyone! You can imagine how daunting it is to be faced with 100+ pounds to lose. From July 9 to January 1, 2014 I lost a total of 59 pounds. I reached 199 (onederland) April 4, with a total of 41 pounds from Jan, 14 to July 30, 14. Everything fits in my closet now, I am in way better health and have so much more energy.
Please do not give up--you can do this! I thought my metabolism was ruined at my age (56) after years if yo yo dieting, but it was not.
Now I have to learn how to dress...I tend to like the more youthful sexier style of clothes. I have an hourglass figure and look best with a belted look; otherwise my hips look big.
Interesting in that it is my waist that everyone notices; as I had huge legs before.

Following a visit from a childhood friend with a 20 inch waist and needing to use a cane during her visit to manage weight related arthritic pain----I am thrilled to announce that I have lost 100 pounds in a year; with the help of all my friends and motivational tools on Spark People! I started July 9, 2013 at 283; and now am 183. I started out at size 24 and now am a size 14 pant and Medium Top. I used the treadmill at my work fitness center to walk 3-4 times a week for an hour. I have been following a lower carb approach since January, which really helped control my blood sugar and insulin spikes. I eat mostly protein, vegetables, low sugar fruit, and healthy fats like avocado. There were a few bumps along the way (vacation eating) but I got back on my regime the moment I got home. I still struggle with evening food snack attacks. It takes consistency in diet and regular exercise--thats the secret. I have another 23 pounds to go.
