A week ago I had a very long list of all the reasons I was NOT going to run the 5k I planned several months ago. I didn't have the reservations yet, I didn't do all the training runs I planned, I didn't get a new pair of shoes last month, I didn't, I didn't, I didn't. On Wednesday, I focused on my earlier realization (thanks SP) that I often let my perfect plans get in the way of what I want. I wanted to do a 5k with my nephew and there was nothing I could do about the 100 details I had built in with that but were not accomplished. The important thing was to just do it. What really made it an easy decision at that point was that I knew that I would feel terrible if I didn't. I finished the 5k today without stopping which I am proud of, but I am especially proud because I overcame a persistent bad habit and it is really good that I gave myself this opportunity to feel success. 4th place for my division (don't be too impressed; it was a very local race) and I celebrated with blueberry pancakes! If you have not challenged yourself to a 5k, I highly recommend you find one that is about 3 months out and go for it!
