Your story is nothing short of fantastic.

Here's my little contribution to the Sparkpeople cause:

Since becoming a Sparkpeople devotee (began program 5/1/11, reached goal 2/15/12), my cholesterol has gone from 238 to 152. When you boil it all down, the secret is simply eating less and moving more. What Sparkpeople provides is the vehicle for finding the BEST & HEALTHIEST way to eat less and move more. Thank you, Sparkpeople, for the umpteenth time.

Spark On!

Eliminate "I will try". Replace with "I will".
You are now ready to succeed.
Let's go.

GOOD for you! My goal is to be able to get off the cholesterol meds. I have always been under 200, but the triglycerides are too high... So I know that it is HUGE to get off any meds! Keep your spark burning, and you will reach your goals!

I don't know if I can quite share wisdom because I'm not a medical professional and I did do so many interventions.

I know that, for me, getting rid of gluten was key. I needed to REALLY have it out of my system for about 9 months to see changes truly take hold, though. I don't recommend that for everyone by a long shot - whole wheat is wonderful for those who can tolerate it. I also know that meditation and yoga (10 minutes a day for meditation - trying to work up to 20 - I've been doing this for about 3 years now, so I'm very slllllooooooowwwww at it) have also made a big difference. I haven't been able to do yoga since January, due to an injury, and I've continued with the meditation with similar results as before. I think doing the gentle yoga helped me to center and learn more about breathing. I know that the BGI chiropractic worked tremendously in the outset. I know that I have more energy, sleep better and am less stressed when I eat non-processed foods and drink plenty of water. The acupuncture seemed to be icing on the cake in terms of helping with clearing out the last of digestive track stuff. I only do that about once every 2 mos. I don't know if this helps - I do feel, strongly, that each body works differently and a lot of this is learning to be mindful and loving of yours. One of the things I like about sparkpeople is the flexibility in terms of eating and exercise choices - and emphasis on things like journaling and communication, too. It truly is a journey.

Great news, and really encouraging for others, too. Can you pinpoint which changes (diet, exercise etc.) helped with which condition at all, or are you fairly sure that the entire package mattered? What type of exercise do you do? Has it changed much as you have been feeling better and getting fitter? How long do you meditate for at a stretch, and how often? It sounds like you might have a lot of useful wisdom to share!

I'm off all specialists, I'm back to once-yearly check-ups with my GP, and I'm off of almost all meds.

I was also released from PT this week.

Here's where I started in 2007 - asthma, fibromyalgia, some type of rheumatoid arthritis, hives, GERD, IBS

I have none of those conditions currently! Yay for exercise, eating right, drinking water, meditation, stress reduction, taking care of ME.
