Sweets have always, always been problematic for me—I can never just eat one serving. I have learned not to cook sweets at home unless my family is visiting and will consume the entire dessert, because I have very little control when it comes to sweets. Yes, I have read many articles, about “How to Conquer Your Sweet Tooth”, but the articles have not helped me over the long term. Yesterday at a reception for our newly elected official, I decided I would not go to the refreshment table unless I was sure that I would not pile my plate high as others were so happily doing with the delectable sweets that were beautifully decorated on the table. I had to convince myself that I could go to the table and just eat one serving of dessert, if I wanted to partake of the sweet smelling foods. As different people came by to sit with me to talk, slowly I stopped thinking, smelling or looking at the beautiful trays of desserts. Just for today, I thought, I will not let my obsessive sweet tooth win. Just for today, I will sit this buffet out. Just for today. “Not that we are sufficient of ourselves to think of anything as being from ourselves, but our sufficiency is from God” (2Co 3:5 NKJV).
Each day is a great new start for whatever you need it to be. Embrace each day.
