Hi, Linda !

You've been making great progress ! What to do for exercise ? You take baby steps literally and figuratively.

If you can walk for 10 minutes before you start feeling uncomfortable, then walk for 10 minutes. No one says you have to walk for an hour at a time. You CAN break your workouts up into shorter segments and still get all the health benefits. So, if you can't walk for 30 minutes, walk for 10 minutes three times a day. Taking three 10 minute walks spaced out through the day still adds up to a 30 minute walk.

There are members who started their exercise routine by just walking to the end of the block and back. We all had to start somewhere. Your strength and endurance will increase with time and regular practice.

And do check out the fitness section. Coach Nicole has 2-3 fitness works that can be done while sitting in a chair. watch the videos before trying them. Make modifications when you need to. Don't feel that you have to do everything they do in the workout. You work at your own level. Chair workouts can be a lot of fun.

Also, were you fitted for a good pair of walking shoes ? Some of the pain you're feeling may be a result of wearing ill fitting shoes. When a person runs or starts walking, they should wear properly fitted shoes. Because wearing the wrong shoes can cause problems with a person's feet, ankles, knees and hip joints.

Do make sure you're fitted for a good pair of shoes. Don't skimp on your feet. wearing the right shoe will make you feel a lot better. Any reputable running/walking or sports store will fit you. try to avoid places like Walmart/Target. You need to decent sports store where you can try on a variety of shoes to see what fits you best.

First of all, make sure you're cleared by your doctor to start exercising.

Go on youtube and search for seated workouts. There are many workout videos available for people with limited mobility.

As for walking, I think even a few minutes a day is a good way to start. Try to go for a 5 minute walk every other day in addition to the exercise videos I mentioned before. Every little bit counts!

You don't have to eat the whole thing.

I have lost almost 20 lbs and am doing pretty good with the food and water thing, now it's time to start exercising. Exercise is not an easy thing to do at 341 lbs , I know the obvious is walking but I am having a lot of trouble with lower back and knees really hurting bad when I try walking. I don't have access to a pool, only in the summer.
Anyone have any ideas for exercising for a seriously overweight, sedentary living mid 40's woman.
I know it's not going to be easy, but I would like to do something I know I will stick to.
There is also no gym in my area.
Any ideas, anyone ?
