I gained about 10 pounds after my surgery. It was due mainly to the inflammation going down in my digestive system and it absorbing nutrients better.

It could be that you're feeling better and digesting your food properly.

You really need to talk to your Dr about this. It is possible that it could be related to something quite different - i.e. a Thyroid problem, and there are many other problems that can cause this.

It would also be helpful if you asked for a referral to a Registered Dietitian, and take along a few print-outs from your Nutrition Tracker. That will enable him/her to give you the best advice as it pertains to you and YOUR health.

Good luck,
Kris

Hmmm...I think that I have lost 30 more pounds since I had my gallbladder out.

Have you been making different food choices since the surgery?

I agree that you should talk to your doctor about this. Could other health issues have started around the same time as your cholecystectomy?

I had it out back in May. I have been on no medications for it. Nothing different but the removal of the Gallbladder.

Have you discussed your post surgery weight gain with your doctor ? Some of your gain could be related to any medications you needed to take. There are many medications that have water weight gain as a side effect. Thus the need to talk to your doctor. They know more about your medical history than anyone here on Spark.

However, if you'd like to read some member's opinions on weight loss and gall bladder removal, you might want to check out this thread.

Ultimately, any advice you receive should come from your doctor first.

Hi,

Due to your recent surgery, this is something you should discuss with your physician. Good luck!

In May 2013, I was 139lbs. I wanted to be 125. I had been 139 for about a year at that time. I had to get my gallbladder out at the end of May. I am now up to 154lbs. I've done some reading that says it's common to gain weight after gallbladder removal. Has anyone else? Any tips on how to get that weight back off? I'm feeling horrible about myself. I'm hoping to get back into working out and everything after I can get my Christmas tree down and my bike/treadmill back where they belong. But I really don't eat a lot. And I'm always moving, I have a 2 and 4 year old. So I'm really just wondering, is there no hope after the gallbladder surgery, is that extra weight just something that hangs out, or is there something I can do? I have started taking fiber. What helped for anyone else?
