Drink ice water with lemon. Water will make you full, ice will help you burn more calories since you body has to warm it to digest and lemon is a natural detox/weight loss aid, and it tastes good too!

You can even add a sprig of mint too!

Gum is what works for me. But, make sure you don't skip a meal. Eat veggies. They are good for you and have very little calories.

Carrot or Tomato soup are good things to have on hand. Or a glass of carrot juice is very filling also. Just remember this journey is not about what you do on one day but what you do on the other days that count. cheers Jan

You can also sip on herb tea, the caffeine free varieties. For some reason I've always found hot drinks more satisfying when I'm feeling hungry.

When I get to the palm trees on my ticker I'll be at my weight prior to having children.

That reminds me. If you're thirsty, your body may tell you it's hungry. Try drinking some water before you decide you're actually hungry.

I agree with below. Snack on veggies--some are next-to-none in calories. They can easily put some volume into your belly without completely wrecking your count for the day. The lowest calorie ones like cucumbers and tomatoes mentioned below are also high in water content, so it helps with your hydration, too. If you're feeling hungry a lot, try to eat a lot of low calorie foods that can fill you up for only a few calories. That's what I've done a lot. I'll have a chicken breast for dinner and a ton of steamed broccoli. I feel so full with the volume and protein, but haven't used up a lot of my daily calories. I like to eat sweet potatoes a lot, too, for the filling factor.

I totally agree with NAYPOOIE.....Monitoring protein intake is important in maintaining healthy blood glucose levels which will keep you more satisfied. Try adding 2 ounces of protein to each of your meals....yes, breakfast too! You might want to try a small vinegar and oil salad and add a little healthy fat to your meals plan....like black olives, salmon, flax, 1/2 avocado, dark leafy greens, chia seeds, walnuts, Almonds, pimpkin or sunflower seeds...this will also help to stay out of the fat storing mode. Don't become phobic of fats....eating too many carbs (sugars and flours) and skip hydrogenated or trans fats ...these will put you into a fat storing mode and I am sure you want to be in the fat burning mode.

Here are some nibbling ideas
1/2 cup of sliced cucumbers for just 8 calories and 2 grams of carb.
1/2 cup of cherry tomatoes for just 13 calories and 2 grams of carb
Strawberries or Blueberries swirled in a tablespoon of Fage 0% plain Greek yogurt will cost you a total of 20 calories and 4 grams of carb
1/4 cup of blueberries which has 20 calories and 5 grams of carb.
Grab a red pear or an apple both have fiber and are filling.

Thanks, guys. I think I was going through withdrawals from overeating (I'm only 2 weeks in to this new lifestyle thing!); I really WAS hungry (I wasn't just making it up like I used to), but I felt this longing to just walk through the kitchen and put EVERYTHING in my mouth. In the end I chose some baby carrots and leftover piece of ham, then went outside and played in the snow with my kids. Thanks for the support, and the good advice. (Sugar is my weakness, so knowing about the chemistry of what is happening when I eat it is helpful.)

Maybe your calories are too restrictive? Are you trying to keep it down to 1200? A lot of people do better if they ease up a little. Check this thread out. www.sparkpeople.com/myspark/messageboard.a

BTW, you may be hungry because of the apple pie. Sugar and starch can cause an blood glucose spike, which causes an insulin spike, which can then take your blood glucose too low, leaving you hungry.

If you are hungry, then EAT. Try to include a good amount of protein to help keep you full for longer. Don't worry about being 'over budget' today. If you want the rest of the apple pie at dinner, why not have 1/2 the portion you would have had, and eat it more slowly.

One or two days over(indulging) isn't going to affect you in the long run. Just start tomorrow with healthier choices, and be mindful of your portions, AND remember to eat each of your meals, and include lean protein with each meal.

I've eaten about 900 calories today (if that darn apple pie hadn't been on the counter this morning...) and I'm saving the rest for dinner. But I'm HUNGRY! What to do? Just drink water? Eat baby carrots? Read on the couch? I really want to succeed in this long-term journey and I've been doing pretty well until now; today is just a hungry day I guess!
