It may be that you need to do some core-strengthening exercises - things like Mat Pilates. Have a stronger core (deep abdominals and lower back) often results in appearing to look slimmer because your posture is better, your breathing is better - you have better control. Note, having a stronger core doesn't mean that you are 'spot reducing'!!
If you notice my weight ticker, I have lost a bucket load of weight. It took 16 months for the first 50lb to come off. Even now, when my Dietitian measures my waist, it has only reduced minimally, BUT I have gone from a NZ size 20-22 to a size 12-14. Obviously I have gotten smaller and I look tons better. My cholesterol has improved considerably and I am no longer borderline pre-diabetic. If you have BP issues, odds are that this would improve with weight-loss, too!
Other ways to measure your success is your energy level; the quality of your sleep; other people noticing that you are looking good (they may not know WHY, tho' - LOL!)
