RUMBLESEAT,

You're being too hard on yourself. If you're lonely and you don't want to go out, then why not post on the forums ? If you don't want to post a thread, then reply to one. Replying to threads is a good way to interact with the Spark community. The more you interact, the more cyber friends you'll meet and make.

If you don't want to post on SP, how about doing some volunteer work ? Why not volunteer at an elder care facility ? There are lots of older adults who've been abandoned by their families. There are lots of things you could do as a volunteer. If you don't want to do that, you could volunteer at your local food pantry or church. You could be a mentor of some sort like big sisters. You could be a literacy advocate. there are lots of students who need tutors.

There are lots of things you could do to keep yourself busy (not so much to keep you away from the kitchen), but to help get you out of the house to socialize a bit. Yes, volunteering is one way to meet new people as well as enrich your life by helping someone who needs it.

You may find volunteer work very fulfilling.

Maybe start to learn about one food a day.....change your routine...... that causes boredom....boredom causes loneliness...put on some uplifting music and get some sun...sit by a sunlit window.....here is a poem that might interest you....

The best six doctors anywhere
And no one can deny it
Are sunshine, water, rest, and air
Exercise and diet.
These six will gladly you attend
If only you are willing
Your mind they'll ease
Your will they'll mend
And charge you not a shilling.
~Nursery rhyme quoted by Wayne Fields, What the River Knows, 1990

Perhaps you are lonely because you choose to be....it's safe. Snap yourself out of this! Why go through loneliness when something can be done to overcome gloom and over eating?

Volunteer at a soup kitchen, donate can goods or help pack them.... and helping others is a good way to combat loneliness...it makes you feel good....there are others that need you...some people go shopping other to the library.....just stay busy.....

You might have depression and are not aware of it...Eat foods rich in omega-3 fatty acids and folic acid.
Omega-3 fatty acids are present in the brain at higher levels than any other part of the body, and of particular interest is the ability of omega 3 fats to help alleviate depression. Omega 3 fats can be found in fatty fish like wild salmon, sardines, and Atlantic mackerel, and to a lesser extent in ground flaxseeds, walnuts, and omega-3 fortified eggs.

Combine high-quality carbohydrates with lean protein to alleviate mood swings...

I've just seen your post. Don't throw it all away. You say you are hanging out on SP - make the most of that. Read some of the positive articles, this one for instance

Rather than trying to force yourself to meet new people when you're already feeling vulnerable, are there "old" people you could reach out to? Family, old friends? Check in on an older person in your neighborhood, or find some way to help out a single parent? Taking a walk is a great idea because it may also give you the chance to just be out in the world around people, in a light no pressure social environment.

I would suggest that you go to a gym or take a walk instead of eating. Thats what I do when I am alone and feeling like I just want to drown my lonliness in food.

I understand what you are going thru, I binge when I am alone. But I don't like people sometimes, or new people anyway. So, lately I have been taking ME time and that means, I go to the gym, go have my nails done, or get a massage. I don't binge and I feel great afterwards

I'm feeling very much alone right now. I often feel this way and it's what triggers me eating junk food.

Please don't sugguest how I go about meeting new ppl and making friends. I know, I know, I know! Trouble is, I'm a homebody and not a social butterfly.

I'm hanging out here on Sparkpeople because I'm resisting the urge to splurge ...not just to make myself feel better, but because the thought process is "who cares anyway"............

I was doing so much better these past 2 wks and I'm about to toss it all away....

maybe i just need to work 7 days a week just to keep occupied.

Finding fun fitness..
