Best advice is to have a wonderful time!!! :)

Alcohol adds a lot of empty calories, so maybe don't go overboard (ha ha) on drinking.

Besides the activities (plus dancing at night), you can walk the ship as well to get in extra exercise.

Hope you have a great time!

I am leaving on one tomorrow morning. Great advise here. I feel like I have a lot of nervous energy and might hit the gym on board. Never thought to look for activities. Thanks all!

Have a wonderful time.

It would be such a pity to be so focussed on eating right that you feel deprived - so if it was me I would leave the bread and all the stuff that I eat at home anyway, I'd make sure I got plenty of fruit and veg, and maybe some of the meat and fish that's a bit expensive for me normally. And I'd choose at least one dessert each day. I'm not a drinker so the cocktails wouldn't be an issue for me - leaving me more scope for some ice cream etc.

The thing is, it's a 5 day cruise. You'd have to go 700 cals above your daily requirements every day to put on just one pound of fat. Go and enjoy it and aim to put on no more than 2 pounds of fat over the 5 days. Then if you end up 1 pound heavier you'll be pleased with yourself!

I've taken two cruises. The best advice I ever got was to take the stairs - all the time.

At lunch, I loaded up with salad (just the veggies) and "flavored" it with meat/cheese or whatever.

Often you can get egg whites or GREAT fruit at breakfast.

That way I could "splurge" at night a bit.

Also, I took great advantage of exercise and had wonderful fun doing it - latin dance classes, snorkeling, etc.

And I'd echo everyone else - focus on FUN.

I went on a cruise last summer and the cruise line I was on had a healthy menu (that didn't have more than 800 calories, I think) for an appetizer, meal, and dessert. My strategy was to only eat two meals a day. One brunch meal (which I skipped out on the sugary breakfast items and had eggs, fruit, toast, and coffee), a mid-day treat (usually a fruity cocktail), and then a sensible dinner (I didn't eat any of the bread from the bread basket, even though it smell delicious).

But, if you do indulge more than you want-- so what?! You won't be on a cruise everyday for the rest of you life, so it's okay to relax a little and enjoy yourself!! I knew I wasn't going to lose any weight so I just focused on not gaining weight (I did gain 2-3 lbs but I didn't beat myself up over it. I knew I did NO exercise and indulged in things I normally wouldn't have).

Most importantly, have fun!! (:

Have a wonderful time on your trip ! Mostly, watch out for the buffet tables. It's hard not to want a try a bit of everything, but if you do, the calories add up fast. So, try to be selective. Don't try things you can get at home. Look for things that are more exotic.

Watch the fruity cocktails. it's okay to have 1 or 2 once in a while, but don't drink too many. one fruity cocktail can have 350-500+ calories per drink. If you have more than one, you see how quickly the calories add up.

Does the cruise ship have activities ? I'm sure it must have things like a rock climbing wall, Zumba classes, dance classes, aerobics, a gym, a pool, etc... get in a bit of exercise each day to stay active. If you're going on shore at any time, take long sightseeing walks or hikes.

Mostly, if you are mindful of your portion sizes, you'll be okay. Indulge, but try not to over indulge too much. AND... if you do overindulge, don't beat yourself up when you get home. it's only FIVE days. When you get home, you can return to your routine.

Enjoy yourself ! Don't fret ! Eat sensibly if possible, but don't beat yourself up if you do over eat. This is a lifestyle change, not a diet. Cruises can be a part of a healthy lifestyle.
