Well, last time I checked, we're *all* going to die.... eventually.... of something.
I do hope that you told your vet that just because she had a major surgery and lost weight, it's still not going to make her immortal!
As for it scaring you, I think it's possible that you've had your health issues in the back of your mind for quite some time and this comment just brought it up to the front of your thoughts. I applaud the idea that you consider it as being helpful (rude and blunt, but helpful) and use it to spur you back on the road to being healthier.
The source of inspiration doesn't matter - what matters is what you do with it.

Afraid of a colonoscopy? Believe me - they are much less frightening than surgery and chemotherapy.
Colonoscopies allow polyps to be removed before they can become cancer, or let cancers be found before they are too widespread. If you are 50 or older, or have any symptoms, please don't let fear stop you from covering your butt.
