You're doing just fine !!!

I give all new members and anyone who will listen to me one piece of advice and it's this,"Don't look at good health or weight loss with an all or nothing mentality". If the only healthy thing you did for yourself today was drink 8 glasses of water, that's still a step in the right direction.

I know things seem overwhelming right now, but you can regain your health. Spark People encourages all its members to start with simple changes first. Don't try to do everything at once or you will end up frustrated. Set some simple goals. Example, if you're not eating 6-9 servings of fresh fruit and veggies, set a goal to eat 2-3 servings each day for one week. If you're not drinking 8 glasses of water, set a goal to drink 2-4 glasses each day for one week. If you're not exercising, don't try to do an hour a day, set a goal to take a 30 minute walk each day for one week. Once you've achieved these goals, then you set new ones. Don't worry about anything else. Just do your best to work on those goals.

Binge eating is a very complex disorder with no easy solution. The first thing I would recommend is that when you feel an urge to eat, take a moment and sit down. Write out how you feel. Were you angry ? Were you upset ? Were you bored ? Were you frustrated ? Whatever emotion you were feeling when you binged, write it down. Keep writing down your emotions. How did the food taste ? What did you eat ? Not only can certain emotions cause us to binge, certain foods can too.

In time, what you may learn is what triggers your binges. If you can find out what causes your binges, you'll be able to decrease how many binges you have. So, right now, you may be binging every day. As you learn more about what causes your binges, it may go down to once a week, once a month or even less.

Also, have you ever discussed your binge eating with your doctor ? Because binge eating can have an emotional component, it wouldn't hurt to talk to your doctor. Your doctor could refer you to a therapist. If you feel that your binge eating is getting worse, it wouldn't hurt to talk to a professional. You don't have to do this alone.

Don't worry! You're already ahead of the game. First, you know how to fix this problem, because you've fixed it before. Second, you are AWARE of the problem. Do you have any idea how often I see people here on SP who say the weight crept up on them and they had no idea how it happened?

You know how it happened...and you're going to stop it before the situation gets worse!

Knowing is half the battle (at least that's what GI Joe told me). So, get out there and start fighting the other half of the battle!

Don't be too hard on yourself. Remember, LOVE WINS. Always. Love yourself, and see yourself as the strong beautiful person that you are. And when you start to binge, or sneak a snack on the sly, try REALLY HARD to ask yourself if that snack will make you feel good about yourself in half an hour. This is very difficult to do ... a lifetime of just mindlessly eating has caused me to go up and down for decades. But what is working for me now is to stop myself, and ask myself "am I hungry? or do I just want this right now because I am bored/in pain/stressed?" If you are NOT hungry, don't eat it. Trust me, in an hour, or the next morning, you will feel so good about making the right choices, it will get easier the next time. Love yourself well.

I am soooo mad at myself...
I have arthritis and had high cholesterol till last year. I started exercising and eating right and just after a couple of months, my cholesterol levels came to normal and i was in my best shape ever. I was eating right, working out and everything was looking up....till i had to go and blow it all up! I dont know what triggered it - maybe the new job i took ...i've just NOT been exercising and even if i do...i've been binging everyday...i eat on the sly and am basically responsible for the mess i am in right now! Now my cholesterol has shot up and i am back where i started!! This is soooo stupid of me....
