Slimmerkiwi has given you some good pointers. I take Wellbutrin for my depression. It has helped me more than I can say. I was in a very dark place, and this medication has lifted me out of it and given me the ability to go on with life.

Working out makes a tremendous difference. If I miss too many days of exercise, I can feel it in my emotional life. If you aren't currently doing any exercise, I highly recommend you try to start at least 10 minutes per day- walk around the block or even march in place in your living room for 10 minutes to peppy music.

As for the emotional eating, it's very hard. I haven't found a great way to battle it except to remove myself from the food, by going outside and doing something, or drinking a nice cup of tea, or just sitting and really examining why I think I need to eat.

I suffer from depression and have also occasionally suffered with mild anxiety attacks, too, but I have never been one to use food in that way, fortunately.

Have you spoken with your Dr about your emotions and how they affect you?
Are you having treatment, Therapy and/or medication?
Have you been checked for other conditions which can contribute to your emotional health AND weight issues? Things like PCOS, Hypothyroidism and Diabetes can all impact on our emotions, and for those of you who eat your emotions, that too. I would suggest that if you aren't receiving treatment, then talk with your Dr about what is happening and your various options. If you are already on meds, then it may be appropriate for him/her to review your medicaiton. Asking for a referral to a Therapist who deals with eating issues may also be beneficial.

Hello! You're definitely not alone! I do the same thing. I too have anxiety and depression. I still have trouble dealing with it, but one thing that really helped me out (and lose the bulk of my weight) was seeing a counselor. Talking with someone-a neutral party, definitely helps out.
Another thing that has always helped me is journal. I have been keeping journals here and there since I was in about second grade. Talking things out, or breaking down feelings helps a lot.

A couple of years ago, I took up jogging. I absolutely love it and I really believe that it helps with my depression- endorphins and whatnot. It also helps out with clearing my head and helping out with anxiety.

I hope some of these ideas help you too!

I struggle with eating emotionally too. I find myself wandering into the kitchen and I've taken to asking myself why I'm there and asking why I'm feeling hungry. I can usually say I'm bored or nervous.I'll grab a glass of water and then walk out of the kitchen. We also put a baby gate blocking the kitchen. Makes me think twice about going in there. S - Start slowly, set yourself up for success
T - Try new things, don't say you can't do something or don't like something before you have tried it.
A - Add movement everywhere, walking farther, calf raises while waiting in line, etc.
R - Realize that you are human & will make mistakes
T- Take time to recognize your successes - celebrate!

God, grant me the serenity to accept the people I cannot change, the courage to change the one I can and the wisdom to know it's me.

I deal with depression every day, and periodically some anxiety I would be honest here that I do eat with my emotions, especially when I am stressed, sad, or anxious about something. I want some advice about what to do when I have these issues,
