I hope my experience will help you. My first year at Spark People was the same as you. I worked so hard to be perfect and then I get disappointed when the progress was not fast enough. I literally got stuck at a weight plateau for nearly five months and nothing broke it--not eating more, eating less, exercising more, exercising less. Nothing helped. And then I just gave up and said, well, if this is the best weight I can get to, then so be it. You guessed it, the following week I dropped three pounds. I personally believe your MENTAL ATTITUDE and EMOTIONAL STATE has as much to do with your weight loss as what you do or do not eat or do.

I got within 3 pounds of my all-time weight loss goal, never quite made the magic number but it does not matter to me. I have managed to maintain my weight loss (give or take a swing of 4 pounds up and down) for three years now, which is amazing for me as I could have won a trophy for yo yo dieting.

So, in summary, ease up on yourself, stop obsessing with the number on the scale, if you slip--and we all do--get up and start again with the next meal or the next day. Just keep going. Slow and steady wins the race. You can do this, you really can!

Been there, done that. Actually that's where I am at now. Discouraged but I refuse to quit and give up. I hope that you got back on track. I'm planning on starting fresh tomorrow.

Sending positive thoughts your way. Good Luck on your journey.

" My frustration comes from wanting to lose it fast so when I get stuck at some point I get discouraged."

There-in lies your problem! Your 'WANT' is NOT your 'NEED' !!!!!

There is a reason for the expressions
"Rome wasn't built in a day"
and
"Patience is a virtue!"

Ask yourself this:

"Do I want to lose weight and KEEP IT OFF? or, do I want to keep yo-yoing?"

Again - patience is a virtue - opt for baby steps, i.e. changing things slowly, and slowly moving down!

All you can do is forgive yourself and get back on track. Everybody who loses weight makes mistakes. I think that those of us who are really sucessful over time learn to move forward without beating ourselves up too much about not being perfect.

Every day is a fresh new chance to start again.

LUCILLEMARY1,

I give all new members one piece of advice and it's this,"Don't look at good health or weight loss with an all or nothing mentality". If the only healthy thing you did for yourself today was drink 8 glasses of water, that's still a step in the right direction. Remember, you're trying to change habits learned over a life time. that's not going to happen overnight, a week, a month or even a year. Change takes time. thus the need to be patient with yourself and your body.

Here's something I learned from my own years of yo yo dieting, the faster a person takes off the weight, the faster it packs back on. Take the weight off slowly and it will stay off.

Take baby steps literally and figuratively. Make simple change. Don't try to do everything at once or you will end up frustrated. No one ever became a healthy eater overnight. It's impossible.

Be kind to yourself as you would to others. If you need motivation, look no further than your fellow members. Check out some of the motivational stories. If they can do it, so can you.

I successfully lost 11 lbs. but have gained back 6 back. My frustration comes from wanting to lose it fast so when I get stuck at some point I get discouraged. I am back and plan to stay with this site because it did help me. I think I am an emotional eater. I was recently under a lot of stress and I just ate and ate. Any advice for me.
