I'm working from home right now, part time only, and I've a ton of down time!! OMGosh the down time.

I come here a lot. It helps me stay focused on my eating more. When I read about people struggling with overeating, or how they have made better choices, it helps me to not overeat and make better choices.

This is a problem for me too. I have struggled with lack of energy since August. I have changed jobs and I am at home more. At first I thought great I can read my Bible more and exercise more. Neither has happened. What has happened is I play more games online more. I eat out of boredom. I am not hungry but I find myself eating just to eat. I know I need to stop this but I don't know how.

God grant me the serenity to accept the things I can not change the courage to change the things I can and the wisdom to know the difference.

Sometimes getting onto the internet (meaning SP :-) and reading the articles can be a great way of learning something and taking your mind off food. It sounds like you might be a 'boredom' eater. I can assure you that many times in the first couple years of my joining SP I often forgot about food - including occasionally, my meals - so in that respect I felt like it was a win/win situation for me. I was learning something new AND not eating unnecessarily - LOL!

it's 6:00 in the evening here, a cold winter night. I ate dinner and stayed within my calorie range. Now what to do? I have opened and closed the refrigerator a number of times! Drank so much tea. Ugh, I'm just going to get into bed far from the kitchen and put on the TV! emoticon

Spending time on SP is good - it might distract you from eating. I know that it has many a time for me, and others. I used to get soooooo lost in the articles that I even forgot about meals, sometimes - LOL!

Are you able to do some housework in the a/noon. Perhaps spread what you do over the day instead of just the morning. If the weather is good, go for a walk, or put on your favourite music and get too with dancing. (mind you, if I were to do that I would be sure to pull my curtains - LOL!)

I've got a lot of extra time this summer myself, so I have been on a personal development kick. Recordings, webinars, videos, books. It's very easy for me to become complacent, so I want to stay on my toes and try to better myself. It's easy to become absorbed in the material for hours, and then suddenly it's meal time. Or, if that doesn't appeal to you, invite a friend over, and you can make a nice meal together. That's more fun than eating mindlessly, and the conversation will probably take your mind off the food. If you really can't get your mind off of food, you might use your afternoon time to find recipes for healthy meals. Good luck!

Hobbies, Hobbies, Hobbies.

I have a lot of hobbies that help me fight boredom -- and the munchies that tend to happen when a person is bored.

I like to be crafty, so a lot of my hobbies are in that genre. I like to make candles, make jewelry, and rehab furniture. I like to browse CraigsList or visit thrift shops to try to find another project. I check out a lot of blogs of people that are like-minded and see what they are doing.

I check out Pinterest -- which is where I can find a lot of cool things to do as well.

I organize & clean. I am one of those crazy people that like to do this. I empty out my closet or my kitchen cabinets on a regular basis, clean everything, and reorganize.

If I am watching TV, I try to drink a ton of water to fill me up.

Go out for a short walk, or try one of the videos on Sparkpeople or Youtube. I am going to do this when I find myself reaching for the food. It's something that you have grown accustomed to, and now you have to replace that habit with something better.

Today's excuses are tomorrow's regrets dressed in disguise.

If you eat crap, you feel like crap and that makes you want more crap.

Volunteer work in a field you are passionate about might help. Reach for water when you have the urge to reach for food.

If I'm watching television and I'm bored, I do exercises on my mat such as crunches, push ups, leg lifts, exercises with my 5-pound weights, etc. It's a great way to get extra exercise in.

Another thing I do when I'm bored is journal-it happens a lot! and I like to draw. I always have a sketch book.

I get so bored in the afternoons and turn to food. I can't find anything to do that I enjoy. I'll watch tv, read, play solitaire and nothing works. I feel like I don't like to do anything. What do you enjoying doing when your bored?
