Boy do I relate with this topic. I'm far from being able to offer advice. i weigh more than you & have just started making these connections myself.I can share with you what's been working for me.
I am a processed carb addict. I can polish off a bag of chips without even thinking twice until I'm at the bottom of the bag. do pretty great with chocolate, too. Especially since I've gotten older my cravings are stronger.I can't ignore them anymore.
I've learned diet pepsi & foods w/artificial sweetener make these cravings worse,so I try to stay away from these.I drink water w/lemon & a shot of stevia or monk fruit now.
I have realized eating my dinner between 5-6:00 helps. Instead of 4:00, as I used to.Also, i was depriving myself a little too much during the day, so when I feel that knawing feeling instead of waiting until dinner is done cooking, for example,I'll have a reasonable snack then I don't seem to have cravings as much later, personally.
Also if I feel the cravings coming on at night strong. I used to try to just ignore it & go to bed or do something else. Most times I'd end up binging later & hating myself for ruining my progress. Now I have a snack when I feel that. what works well for me is celery stick with one Light Laughing Cow cheese triangle, sometimes I cut up a couple green olives & put on top for salt. I put 2tsp PB on 1/2 a granny smith apple. One of my favorites that's very satisfying is a sweet potato cut into strips, like fries. I add 1/2tsp olive oil a little salt for that craving garlic powder, chili powder & a little cayenne pepper for kick. I bake them then split them in half for two snack portions. i stir 2TBL Fage plain greek yogurt with chili powder & use that as a dipping sauce. All these give me the flavor & satisfaction I need & if I eat them before the craving gets too bad I save myself from binging .
I used to think I was being bad/weak if I had a snack that I wasn't trying hard enough & try to willpower through it. It only worked so long for me. These thought out snacks have saved me many cals of night time snacking. I hope sharing my experience may help you in some way. Good luck. Don't stop trying !
