Joint pain could be caused by inflammation...I agree do with the "RICE" route.

Some people take Vitamin C to heal already damaged tissues, or eat berries to reduce inflammation. Other foods to reduce inflammation are Green Peppers, Cucumber, Sweet Potatoes, Celery, Zucchini, oranges, limes, grapefruits, and lemons...Vegetables such as broccoli, spinach, and kale are also good for joint pain... avoiding sugar will help you reduce joint pain greatly. Avoiding Trans fats, MSG, and salt also helps greatly.

Extra virgin olive oil and drinking water will lubricate the joints too!

This is not meant as medical advice...see your doctor if the pain continues.

Get yourself to an orthopaedic doctor. Don't put it off. In the meantime, swim with a pull bouy. Stop any exercise that puts stress on your knee. RICE.

I kept working out through the pain 12 years ago. I had to have knee surgery that ended my running, and I began gaining weight.

The pain is your body trying to talk to you. Please listen.

When I started exercising I had extreme knee pain. My solution was to exercise my legs more. DON'T DO THAT!! I finally took a break from exercise and the pain subsided. I must have overdone it and have been more aware of how much to do.

If you have a doctor you can go to, you may find that it's a simple problem that just requires some different movements or exercises and stretches to solve. Keep icing the knee, even if it's not currently hurting - soft tissue injuries take a while to heal.

Make sure that if you're doing any sort of body weight exercises and stretching, you never extend your knee past your foot - it's a common reason for knee strain.

Good luck and be patient while it gets better :)

Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants.

How does it feel your knee to bike? Or swim? How is walking?

In addition to the RICE, ibuprofin can help while you're waiting to see a doctor. (Don't take ibuprofin if you might be pregnant or are trying to get pregnant, and be careful if you have stomach problems.)

You will find around a lot of Gyms and exercise class studios, this sign:

"If you have pain, STOP and notify your Instructor!"

The pain you describe needs R.I.C.E. as Coach Nancy mentioned. ALSO as she mentioned, if it doesn't improve, then make an appointment with your Dr. It COULD be that you need Physiotherapy. It COULD be that your technique needs improvement to prevent injury recurring. There are other "It COULD be's" but you won't know if you don't get it checked properly without aggravating it further.

Good luck with it!
Kris

My knees started to hurt when I started doing lunge style exercises. I quit doing those and it took a few weeks but my knees no longer hurt. Try some different exercises that are less stressful for your knees and see what happens.

Hi A1863GAL,

When it comes to pain, the best thing to do is rest, ice, compress and elevate and if after a few days you are not doing better you may want to contact your doctor. Injuries/pain are difficult to determine a cause because many times the source of the pain is not the cause of the pain--your knee pain could be caused by a muscle or a connective tissue imbalance or some other bio-mechanical issue which is difficult to say on an internet site. And remember only a doctor is in the position to diagnose.

I hope you feel better soon!

Coach Nancy

Been working out for 3 1/2 weeks now. This past week my knee was sore. But yesterday after my workout I could hardly stand the pain so i but ice on it. Today i was working out and had to keep stopping because I was in pain. What should i do. I really love working out so I would hate to have to stop for awhile. Im doing so good and so close to my major goal.
