Thanx guys!!! I REALLY appreciate all of the advice!! I didn't give up and have actually started losing pounds AND inches. I have put myself in the budget a little more for freggies and it does help. I feel great about what I'm doing and I will NOT give up! Hope everyone is feeling positive and again THANX
Love all the advice and tips you got.. and I think what everyone had to say hit the nail on the head.. I know for me when I am not losing, I need to look at the my food.. am I getting enough fruit and veggies.. and protein.. and how are my portions.. ? that is for sure.. and too am I eating to little or to much..?? so much to factor in.. and then they are the " diet" busters like someone said coffee creamer, which is a huge diet buster for me.. because I love cold coffee and I have to have cream.. so now I am starting to use skim milk..

Hi CAMILLEYO. I began my journey at age 49 and was also worried about the age thing. But this time, I did something different & Iost faster and easier than the other 2 times many years prior AND so far I'm keeping it off. What did I do? I took Archi's advice on the fruits and veggies. I average 7-9 servings a day and it was unbelievable the difference this made. If I had only known about this before, I would have done it waaaaaay earlier! Within a week of starting this, people were asking me if I lost weight and I was safety pinning my waistbands. BTW, I eat meat, dairy, chocolate as well. I do measure things as I still underestimate portion sizes (sigh). I always ate at the high range of my calories and sometimes slightly over (at my age, I was NOT going to "diet" any more). But I'm telling you, try ramping the veggies especially for a week and just see if you notice a difference. I bet you do! They are in my lifestyle forever now as I've seen what they can do.
u will get there its a matter of finding the right portions and making sure you eat your freggies, also if you are working out always realize muscle weighs more than fat...so dont get discouraged. and i also encourage at least 8 -8oz of water a day it really helps!!
Stay positive...also i wanted to share something and like most suggestions/advise you can do with it what you want...but it is helping me.

Oh, don't you believe this!!
Yes, our metabolisms do slow down as we age. So we have to adjust slightly to account for this. But "age" need not stand in your way.
Don't let your expectations stand in your way, either! Look, I actually totally relate to your dismay that you haven't "lost 20# fast like you have done in the past" - when I last lost significant weight (1999, mid-30's), I dropped like 5# the first week, 3 the 2nd.. yeah, I had 10, 20# gone before i knew it.
This time around (2013, late 40's)? It's been a different, more paced-out journey. I haven't seen "dramatic initial losses" this time around, but I HAVE seen CONSISTENT losses. Which is fine by me! If I want the losses to stay lost, I'll have to keep up this new lifestyle anyways, so there's no point in saying "to heck with it, it's not fast enough" because there is really no option at all to say "to heck with it" ever at all!
Goal 1 - break 200 (46 pounds lost)**DONE** Goal 2 - leave obesity behind (BMI 29.9, at 185#) **DONE** Goal 3 - BMI = Normal (154# or less)

For coffee creamer I've used almond milk and to make up for the taste it lacks vs coffee mate I used Stevia and sometimes a bit of honey.
Are you getting in all your water?

I am totally addicted to coffee mate, and use 3 tsp per 20oz cup, so I can identify with this tread. If I have one setback or a hundred the only one I do not want to mess with is my coffee mate. I think my food log is open one of u coaches look at it and reply to my sparkpage your requested op[inion

Fruiits and veggies can act as a natural diruetic. So yes, drink water but remember other sources count too! Some choices to help dispel fluids are Asparagus, cucumber, celery, spinach, iceberg lettuce, tomatoes, zucchini, radishes, eggplant, cabbage, cauliflower, sweet peppers, spinach, strawberries, grapefruit and brocolli, artichokes, watercress, cabbage, onion, even carrots, ice slushies made from fresh berries, and also homemade veggie soup (less sodium when homemade.) Maybe avoid processed vegetables with high sodium contents (salt attracts fluid, check sodium counts in your food)) and eat raw or steamed veggies and for fruits.... kiwi, grapefruits, oranges, strawberries, blueberries, blackberries, raspberries, cranberries and tangerines, avocados.
As for dairy creamers... check the label Corn Syrup? Sodium? Sugar? Trans Fats? Partially hydrogenated vegetable oil ( ups fat intake) Trans fats lead to fat bellies as far as I am concerned. I drink coffee black.
I also do not eat anything Sugar Free!

I had to train myself to drink my coffee black. I drink WAY too much coffee to put creamer in every cup. Now I can't believe how much flavored/sweetened creamer my girlfriends use PLUS additional sugar. Granted, they drink one or two cups while I drink six or eight. The strangest part is that now Coffeemate non-dairy creamers taste like plastic to me. It's like I can feel the hydrogenated oil on my tongue. Blech!

I was absolutely SHOCKED at how much fat and how many calories coffee creamer has! I tried almond milk with my coffee, but it's just not the same. I use 2% milk, just a touch, and it's not too bad at 15 calories per ounce.
Today's excuses are tomorrow's regrets dressed in disguise.
If you eat crap, you feel like crap and that makes you want more crap.

Thanx guys I appreciate the comments! :) I also took a peek at my food diary and looking at the last week I think I was slipping back into some old very bad habits, though I do count portion sizes correctly, I just need to stick to 1 portion! Also, I definitely don't get many fresh fruits or veggies because I make sure the kids get it first so there's rarely any left for mom but (in my weak defense) I do eat canned and frozen and the occasional smoothie. I'll keep pushing it. Maybe do something other than killer hiking trails once or twice a week... ps... As of today I am giving up coffee creamer cuz WOW!

I hope you don't mind, but I snuck a peak at your food diary to get an idea of what you've been eating over the last few days. One thing that stands out to me is your deficiency of fresh fruit and veggies. Yes, you do get 1-2, but that's not enough. For optimum health, a person should be eating 6-9 servings of fresh fruit and veggies each and every day.
If I were to go back in time and give myself one piece of advice that would help me lose weight it would be to increase the amount of veggies I eat.
Also, how do you know how much you are eating ? Yes, you're logging your food, but how are you determining your portion sizes ? Another reason I had problems losing weight was because I had no idea my portion sizes were out of control. If Americans suffer from anything, they suffer from portion distortion. I used to think a 8-12 oz steak was a normal portion. Little did I know that I should have been eating 4-6 oz. I always cleaned my plate because I thought that was what a portion should be. Now, I know better.
So, if you're not weighing your food or checking your portions, you might start there. You may be eating a bit more than you realize. I now use the rule of palm. a serving of meat should be roughly the size of your palm. You might want to measure your pasta. I'm a BIG pasta eater, but like I said, my portions were outrageous. I used to eat 3-4 cups at at time when I should have only been eating one.
What to do ? Pick one meal and measure your portions to see if that makes a difference.
Also, don't trust those water pills. Some times they can take 24-48 hours to work. And honestly, you shouldn't be taking them without a doctor's okay. Let your body regulate itself. I hate bloating, but I just try to be patient with my body. Because not to get TMI, even though you were bloating, you can still carry 3 pounds of waste in your system if you don't do a poop in the morning. Did you have a bowel movement before you weighed yourself ? If not, that might be the cause of a three pound gain too.
My advice ? And you may feel free to take it with a grain of salt is this, try to increase the amount of fresh fruit and veggies you eat and take a closer look at your portion sizes.

I looked at your shared nutrition tracker for the past few days and don't see a lot of fruits and veggies. While you may be eating within your calorie range, it takes far less energy for your body to digest an oreo than it does a cup of strawberries. This is why it is very important to include all food groups in your meal plans to ensure your body is getting not just the calories it needs, but the nutrients, too.

Here are the questions I always ask: 1. Are you keeping a true count of what you eat 2. Are you eating enough (eating too little can hinder your weight loss) 3. Are you drinking enough water 4. Are you getting enough protein

Has anyone else experienced this?.. So I am eating right and doing some serious hiking 4 to 5 times a week for the last 6 weeks and I have actually gained 3 pounds(not water weight, I took water pills yesterday to make sure) either!?!?! I am very large and I usually drop 20 or so right away when I start exercising. I am REALLY annoyed and almost feel like saying **** it. Anyone have a clue what might be going on? A friend declared it was because I'm getting too old to lose easily but I'm only 39. Any advise would be appreciated!!
