Accidents and life happens to us all. I was in a bad accident resulting in many fractures, and unable to dress myself, shower myself, do any meal prep or anything else for a few weeks, and after that time, I was still very limited with what I could do.

Another time I had both wrists operated on at the same time. I couldn't even turn a page of a book for a week. Others had to feed me, toilet me, and without wishing to be too gross or personal, tend to my monthly needs.

This isn't the time to expend our energy on exercise. It is time to rest and take care of yourself. Perhaps if you feel you MUST do something, what about a moderate-speed walk, and ensuring that you are eating a good balance of food, including lots of fruit/veges and lean protein?

Best wishes for a speedy recovery!
Kris

That stinks ! But, injuries happen to us all !

You do the best you can. Don't over do it. Your arm needs time to heal. if you try to use it before it's healed, you risk making the injury worse. I know it's tough to sit tight, but that's what you have to do if you don't want the injury to become chronic.

As my yoga instructor likes to remind me on a regular basis,"Don't abuse".

take care of your body because you've only got the one.

I fell yesterday & landed on my arm. So from what I can tell, rest is the option! THIS IS ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE for me! I am right handed, dressing, cooking etc, isn't going very well. I took today off work & just sitting. I may try to walk in our pool later, better than nothing, plus I can keep my sling on. ????heat or ice?no zumba can't drive or put shoes on! Also eating VERY carefully so I don't gain! Typing 1 letter at a time, left hand!

Your hip problem might be all better by now, but just in case you are still having a problem or develop one in the future, check out the resources at SP for Limited Mobility.

Under articles and videos, click on Lifestyle centers and choose limited mobility.

It's good to get to know this resource. The ideas there are helpful even when you have a temporary injury that keeps you from doing your "usual" workout.

If this goes on for more than a few days, certainly touch base with your Dr. I hurt my lower left back (almost into the hip), years ago while vacuuming. After about 3 months of pain which was in the hip and back, I went to the Dr. An X-Ray revealed that altho' the vacuuming had caused the injury in the first place, it wasn't what the problem was - turned out I had arthritis in the hip and spine and scoliosis that was the problem. I didn't have a clue prior to this. It has meant that there are lots of exercises that are ill-advised for me!

Definitely check with your doctor if this doesn't resolve. However, this doesn't mean you can't do any strengthening exercises. You can focus on upper body moves, which women often neglect, and also do core work in which your hip flexors aren't involved.

Hi KMFITZ721,

If you believe it is a pulled muscle and it has not gone away after a few days you may want to contact your doctor and see what he/she has to say. These types of questions are very difficult for our members to offer any more advice other than to rest or see your doctor as this is really outside the scope of advice.

Sorry.

Coach Nancy

KMFITZ721,

I know you'd really love to be active, but the best thing for you to do is rest. Take some time off to let that pull recover. Could you do some exercises ? Yes, but you risk making that injury worse than it already is.

You will NOT derail any of your efforts at long term weight loss or good health because you can't exercise for a few days. take the time off. Give the muscle time to heal. As you start feeling a bit better, you can slowly ease back into your routine.

For the time being, do your best to be mindful of what you eat. If you still feel pain in a couple of day of rest, give your doctor a call because there might be something else going on.

I somehow managed to pull a muscle in my left hip. It only bothers me when I first get up after sleeping. It acted like it was getting better until I did some stretches at the end of my workout video. Needless to say, I haven't been able to do any sort of strengthening exercises and starting to loose motivation to do them. Anyone have any suggestions for some that won't irritate my muscle any?
