I so agree with the pp's. You know, sometimes I think I am my own worst enemy-- I can always find a yardstick, by which I measure "not good enough". Not thin enough, not smart enough, not fit enough, yada yada yada.
And the truth is that on everything in life-- I'm not at the top of the heap nor at the very bottom either-- I'm somewhere in the middle between those two extremes, where just about everybody else on the face of the earth is, too.
There are going to be people at that 5K who run all the time and are out to post a personal best and maybe even win. But the majority of the people there are going to be out for the sole purpose of having some fun and getting some fitness and raising money for charity. And maybe they'll have a personal best too and maybe they don't care. I can guarantee you they are thinking about themselves and how they do, and not being critical of anyone else's performance.
I think it's fabulous that your fiance is joining you. Just go out and enjoy it-- my DH doesn't exercise and if he said he'd join me for a 5k I'd crawl the whole way, just to get him to get up and get moving.
