Sorry to hear about your father. I agree with Slimmerkiwi; don't let the number on the scale or measuring tape weigh you down. Honestly, unless I took a Sharpie and drew a line around my body wherever it was that I put the tape, I don't know if I could get it in the exact same spot the next time. And I certainly don't remember exactly how snug I pulled the tape the last time. A half inch in your waist could also just be a bit of bloating from TOM or too much salt.
They say that losing weight is 80% what we eat, and 20% exercise. And they say that you can't out-exercise a bad diet. So the eating is really important. When things are really hectic for me and I feel like I don't have the time for everything, I pay extra attention to my food choices and calorie range, and set a goal of 10 minutes a day of exercise. It would be great to get more than the 10, but if that's all I can do, I have no guilt. (If your Fitness Tracker is set for a much higher calorie burn estimate, you'd probably have to adjust it, to reflect a smaller burn.)
