Thanks for the support. I sure didn't think I'd get any replies to my 'cry' but am thankful for the ideas and help. Things are looking up.

That's an interesting idea. I don't have a pool too close and I have an aversion to them, but I see my massage therapist today and will hear what she has to say. I do feel stronger but I'm not doing anything too strenuous. Thanks for the advice though. :)

If you've already seen your Dr. (you really must, you know) and after you are no longer in acute pain, may I suggest deep water running.
The motions are exactly the same as running but you are in the deep end of a pool and your feet don't touch the ground so impact is not happening to your leg. This allows your muscles to keep working so that you aren't starting over at square one once you've healed completely.
Check at your local "Y" or university for classes.

Good luck

EMMITOM,

If the pain is sharp and acute, you might want to call your doctor just to be safe. If it seems to feel a bit better today, take it easy. give your hamstring time to heal. You will NOT derail any of your efforts at long term good health or weight loss because you can't engage in your normal exercise routine.

Give your body time to heal. As long as you are mindful of what you eat, you will not gain. To be honest, you can't outrun a bad diet with exercise. If you want to take the weight off and keep it off, you have to eat right first.

Do you have an ice pack ? Put some ice on that leg to help reduce any swelling or inflammation. You may even want to look into a compression brace (wrap) for a little support. Take a week off or more if you need to. Don't try to start working out too soon or you do risk that injury becoming chronic.

Hi,

I agree that allowing time for your body to heal is vital, but this obstacle does not have to deter you from meeting your goals. Remember healthy living is a life-long journey so while it may be upsetting to take time off to heal, it is just a blip on the radar of your life. If you are not better in a few day you may need to see a doc. Feel better soon!

Coach Nancy

I definitely hope you didn't injure your hamstring, and that the issue resolves with rest, but even if you did, there's no reason to be "scared" of it - you've been there, done that, and you know you can recover from it. Rest, take care of yourself, and if you need to, don't be afraid to see a doctor.

How long have you been injured? If it's more than a few days, you should see a doctor.

If it's only been a day or two, try another day or two of rest (true rest), and then see how you feel.

I have been faithfully working out for 2 months and feeling great. Yesterday I was doing Spark Nicole's 'kettle ball inspired routine' from the 28 day boot camp dvd and I felt a very sharp pain in the back of my left leg. I had hurt my right hamstring a couple of years ago so I knew what it was. I thought I had been doing all the right things. I've been stretching, doing the 'easier' exercises, not doing the same thing day after day, etc. Now what?? I can't go back to what it was like, but what do I do? HELP!!
