I have the exact same problem as you, I crave sugar. I recently decided to basically take white things out of my food plan (no, that doesn't include cauliflower or yogurt). I basically don't eat bread or pasta or sugary things. I can still eat an abundant and varied food plan including all of the important food groups. And it is amazing what has happened. I no longer have cravings. And miraculously, I am far less hungry even though I'm eating far less food. My doctor told me that when I eat something with a high quantity of sugar, it makes my insulin go up which creates hunger. Not eating sugar and white-flour products reduces this process a lot. I am just amazed at the difference. Perhaps this might inspire you to look at your food plan and see what you might change to short circuit the cravings. Good luck!

Hi Lori,

You received some excellent advice from the previous poster. I will add that yes, we can eat out of boredom, but we can also eat out of other emotions--loneliness, anger, fatigue, stress, etc. Making yourself aware of what you are doing when you are doing so is a big step in putting action steps to have in place when times like this come up. Making sure you stay hydrated may help as well as making sure you do not get too hungry between meals, which can actually lower are guard.

Congrats on your stopping smoking...that is wonderful. Be strong!

It is hard...you're right! Have you been able to stop the sweets long enough to finally get to the point where you no longer crave them?

I've found that when I've succumbed to eating a lot of garbage (such as around the holidays) that the first few days of getting back on track are the hardest, but the craving for sweets eventually subsides. Have you been able to stay away from them long enough to get to this point?

And congratulations for quitting smoking! NO EASY FEAT! Quite an accomplishment - good for you!

I'm closer to my goal today than I was yesterday!

When the mindless eating rears its ugly head...WHAT are you eating? If you can make yourself switch from something like chips to baby carrots (heck, with a little lite ranch dressing, even!) or some lower calorie snack, that would be a step in the right direction.

Another trick, BEFORE you consume anything as you reach for that snack, force yourself to drink and entire glass of water first.

i am having a hard time sticking with it. i do good for a couple to few days and then bam, can't stop eating especially sugar. i also eat out of boredom, is there such a thing???. i know i should probably take a walk but i am tired and lazy. i want so much to lose my 30 pounds with out so much of a grueling effort. i quit smoking and find myself eating more which i can not afford to put any more weight on an already overweight body. help, any advice/support will be much appreciated.kk
