Little steps is exactly what I'd do when faced with a large unpleasant task. For example, in university, I hated writing papers and knew I wasn't one of those people who pull an all nighter and write the whole thing in one go, so I'd start as soon as it was assigned and write just a paragraph or 2 every night.
