Sorry to hear about your foot, I am sure it is probably more frustrating than anything else!
I think this is a great time to tell yourself you are going to do what you can do in your control. So you can't walk for a bit - you can still eat every 2-3 hours, track what you eat, and set small (non-walking) goals. I have read many times that losing weight is 80% food, 10% exercise and 10% genetics (I've also seen 90/10 and take out the genetics) so this is a great time to learn about food and nutrition. Maybe in the time you would be walking you can use that time to look up nutrition articles. Or look up ones on exercise and set them aside until your foot heals.
Another small goal you may want to set is to not gain any weight while your foot heals. If you accomplish that get yourself a small reward! (Maybe some new songs to listen to while you walk if you do that, or a new cookbook or maybe earrings if you wear them so that when you wear you can remember you achieved your goal).
You still have time to do a 5K. Many programs are 8-10 weeks to get up to a 5K.
This is just a minor blip in the long journey you'll be on. Remain positive and focus on the things you can do rather than those you can't. They will come!
