Hi! Have you checked the resources here on SP for Limited Mobility? www.sparkpeople.com/resource/lifestyle_cen
I noticed a whole section of resources for people with arthritis.
I go to a Wellness Center 12 miles away. It has an outdoor pool, covered with a bubble and they keep the water at 80. Why I'm telling you this, is they offer a daily hour long class for those suffering with arthritis. I'm not exactly suffering, but my hip makes me aware of it at times. These classes in the water have really helped me tone up, without the impact. AND my hip is better.
The other thing that has helped me was my insurance paid the major portion of LOTS of visit to a chiropractic center. All I had to pay was a
$10 copay each visit. For the first month, I saw a physical therapist who printed out exercises designed to help me with my neck, hip, and feet. She had me do them there first, and then sent me home with the papers. drterlep.reachlocal.com/?scid=2189383&kw=6
This link takes you to simple videos of the exercises the therapist had me do. They are not like aerobics, with lots of movement. She had me hold each for 15 seconds with 3 reps at first, focusing on a different set each time I saw her.
Then the next time, I'd hold for 20 seconds with 3 reps.
I was able to do these, and they enabled me to go on to other exercises such as strength training and walking on the treadmill. I know you don't have a gym available. They just might be the stepping stone to being able to do other work with an exercise ball or stretch bands at home.
It's amazing what is available at Walmart now!!
