When I was put on zoloft, I got sleepy for about a month; I solved the problem by taking them before going to bed, and the side effects went away. Sometimes, different timing or what kind of food you eat with the medication make a difference. For example, grapefruit juice may reduce the effectiveness of antidepressants, I read somewhere.
If the only reason you are off medications is that you had side effects, you should probably talk to your doctor about trying a different kind of medication; you'll probably have to try a few before you find one that works for you. Talk therapy is great, but it can't replace meds in all circumstances; in many cases, both therapy and meds bring good results.
Don't give up; keep discussing alternatives with your doctor until you find something that works. You can do it!
