What you say makes sense....I am having problems at work and am in the process of moving from one job to another. The past 3-4 months have been very stressful because of uncertainity at my job. Fortunately, i have managed to move onto a better organization. I think i will feel a lot better now that i have a decent job. And yes - its all about making th right choices. I dont have to beat myself up everytime i fail. Just that i need to ensure that i dont make the same mistakes again and again.

Thank you all....

Well, I kind of messed up today...ok, so it was a LOT emoticon

I went to a Birthday luncheon at a resturant that doesn't have a nutrition guide on their website so I didn't know how many calories was in what I ordered before I ordered it. The waitress messed up, so I was given a FREE dessert. emoticon

While it was beyond yummy, I knew it would more than likely put me over my calorie intake for the day. I'm okay with it....THIS TIME...but I'm sure glad that birthdays only come around once a year!!! emoticon

VIDYARP,

Losing weight isn't about will power or self control. That's a misconception. Losing weight is all about making better choices for ourselves. We can't will ourselves to not eat. We need to eat in order to be healthy.

Let me ask you this,"What's different about your life today from eight months ago ?" what motivated you to adopt some healthy lifestyle changes ? Another question,"what's different today that causes you to forget about those healthy changes ?" Are you under any unusual stress at work, home, school, relationship ? Stress is a neglected aspect of weight gain. I'm a firm believer that if a person could reduce their stress, they'd automatically reduce their waistline. So, if you are under stress, that would explain why you might not have any motivation to make healthier choices.

Mostly, you can't look at weight loss or good health with an all or nothing mentality. if the only healthy thing you did for yourself today was drink 8 glasses of water, that's still a step in the right direction. You don't have to starve yourself to be healthy. Start with a few simple changes first. Don't try to do everything at once or you will end up frustrated. set some simple goals. example, if you're not used to eating 6-9 servings of fresh fruit and veggies, set a goal to eat 2-3 servings each day for one week. If you're not used to drinking 8 glasses of water, set a goal to drink 2-4 glasses each day for one week. If you're not used to regular exercise, set a goal to take a 30 minute walk each day for one week. Once you've achieved these goals, then you set new ones.

One small change is all it takes to change your life. This doesn't have to be all or nothing. every little bit DOES make a difference !!

Hi VIDYARP,

What about reframing your thoughts? In other words, instead of focusing on the negatives, focus on the positive changes you have made. What changes can you make that will keep you on your journey? Maybe instead of focusing on doing a whole 30-60 minutes of exercise, maybe break your workouts into more doable sessions of say 10 minutes 3 times a day. Maybe sitting down and pre-planning your meals ahead of time making sure you have healthy ready to go at any time?

Remember, most of us have lived with unhealthy choices most of our lives, so it's not unusual to fall back into our old habits for whatever reason. This is why focusing on making small permanent changes over a long period of time takes you off the diet roller coaster and puts you on the path to healthy living.

Be strong...you can do this!

The same thing has happened to me, after I broke my rib and then had my gall-bladder out in the course of two months. I've regained twenty-five pounds. It's sad and it frustrates me no endm but I am not going back to where I started five years ago. Today, I am taking two steps forward. You can do this. I know what I need to do. Track my food, stay on Spark People, and exercise.
You can do it. Hang in there. You are worth the effort!

Hi - You have done so well until now. Most of us tend to get derailed at some stage in our journey, but I am wondering if part of your derailment is depression? You don't want to do anything, you aren't exercising, (procrastination) disregard for what you eat, feel bad, upset, doubt your will-power! It all smacks of depression for whatever reason. I would be inclined to make an appointment with your Dr. There are some medical issues which can cause that, including hypothyroidism. Is there something from your past which could be impacting on you? Is the change in season having an affect on you? Seasonal Affective Disorder caused by reduction in daylight is something to think about.

You may find that you gain a new enthusiasm for life and your healthy lifestyle if you starting eating properly again. Give yourself the best fodder to help with mood, energy and overall health. Exercise doesn't have to be in strict formats, like an hr gym work or walk. You can get snatches of it throughout the day. I get the bulk of mine putting my groceries and laundry away one at a time. The beauty of this is that it not only doesn't seem like exercise, it also doesn't seem like work - to me that is a win/win situation. Today, as an example, I got 26 minutes brisk walk in putting them away. I can get, generally, 3 walks a week in just by doing this. That is a LOT more exercise than I would otherwise have gotten - it DOES work!

Are you able to get a friend to go for a walk with you? That would give you some 'together' time and also both of you get exercise and fresh air. Going about it this way is more of a pleasure than a chore!

Hi all,
I have lost more than 10kgs in the last 8 months through regular exercise and careful eating. And now i just dont want to do anything, I do not exercise (I keep telling myself that i will do it tomorrow) and i am not watching what i eat (Instead of regular small meals, i end up eating junk and processed food with alarming regularity) I feel bad. I think i am gaining back all that weight and it makes me upset. I worked really hard to shed those kilos and now i am sabotaging myself.
I dont think i have the will power...and thats the key :(
