Hi Julie - Have you thought about asking the Therapist if they are prepared to come to YOU? I had a Psychologist who practiced in two cities - 200 km apart - I live in the middle and 15k' out off the beaten track. She would come out to me - we both enjoyed it. If you don't ask, you won't get, that's for sure.

Apart from the Therapist coming to you, is there not someone - a friend or family member - who could provide some child care? Another avenue is a Church. Often you don't need to be a member to access this sort of help, and there is often a roster of people who are prepared to help in this way. My own daughter has provided child minding services while people have attended programs.

Good luck,
Kris

Thanks for the links I have been referred by my GP but unfortunately the place I have to get to is 20 miles away - I don't drive n my husband's shift patterens also mean I'd have no child care even if I could get there. I have been given lots of literature and 'self-help' stuff because of my circumstances and it's suggests having a network of people at different stages with the same thing so here I am x x x

Hi, Julie ! Welcome to Spark People.

Have you checked out some of the Spark Teams ? There are several for members who are recovering or currently dealing with eating disorders, binge eating, etc... you might have a look at these for emotional eating, binge eating, compulsive over eaters.

There are lots of different teams that you could join. Joining a team is a great way to network with people.

Also, are you talking to a therapist about your binging ? If not, you might consider asking your doctor for a referral to a therapist who treats eating disorders. A good therapist can help you work through whatever issues you're having. Because binging isn't always about the food. If you can learn what emotions are driving you to eat, you can learn to control your binging. For now, you might want to read some of the great Spark articles on emotional eating.

I am an ex-binge eater. I was told there is a team, but I haven't found one yet. This is a life time of problems. I still think about it all the time and have even attempted it once in this journey, but there was not enough food in my body to get any up.

I wish you lots of luck and am willing to talk if you want. Sparkmail me.

There is probably a team for that... have you looked?

I have found information on mindfulness eating and practicing mindfulness eating incredibly helpful. I do still struggle but it is the most helpful tool for me. Starting the day with mindfulness meditation seems to set the right tone for the day for me and helps with stress and anxiety.

Hi I'm Julie and I have a binge-eating disorder - wondered how many other people out there do and how people are managing it. I'm finding it very hard to stop. Thinking if enough of us club together here to talk about it then we'll have a bit of a support system going emoticon x x x
