It'll be okay! Today is a new day and an opportunity to start fresh. Learn from your decision and apply it to the next time you get this kind of craving.

Absolutely! I agree 100%!! I tracked my dark chocolate yesterday and I was happy to see it's in the listed foods so we are NOT alone!!! To be honest, an occasional small burst of chocolate or cookies actually kick starts my metabolism again when I'm at a plateau! Works for me!

The more you work at it, the more worthwhile it becomes.

It's ok. Just add it to your tracker. At times it is better to give in to the craving. If you don't you start picking trying to replace what you rally want ( the M+M's)/ So just give in to the craving, in the long run it is better.

My weight has been hovering 2-3 lbs above my lowest weight for more than a week. The last two days I ate ice cream - not a lot - but delicious.
This morning my weight was back at my lowest number so far - 3 lbs down. So the ice cream didn't hurt me at all.

on this journey, i have tried not to make certain foods ver boten. it only tends to increase the cravings. 'sides, life is meant to be savored and that means enjoying the occasional bag of m&ms. emoticon

I was putting 6 M&M's in my trail mix bags, which are high fibre mix 150 cals a bag. The bags are the only place I have sweets but I have heard that there are high amounts of trans fats, which are bad for heart desease! World Duty Free wont sell them any more. So I change them to Smarties. Not sure if you can get them in US.
I couldnt do without my sweets each day. I only have a max of 2 of my bags a day. Life savers.

Definitely DO NOT beat yourself up over it. SP is about learning how to enjoy things in moderation, and it's never about perfection. Personally, I've got to have something chocolate every day. If I don't, I'm like a cat stalking a bird. But I know this about me, and I plan around it. I forego the sour cream with a burrito, or I drink water instead of sweet tea-essentially, making the swaps so that I can enjoy the treat within my calorie range.

And what if I slip up and go over my calories? Then I either add a few more minutes of cardio to each of my workouts that week, or I add another workout all together (depending on what time I have that week).

And even if you don't, it's not going to permanently derail you. Now, I wouldn't recommend getting one of those huge bags of M&Ms that has like 2,000 calories and eating it every day! But a 230 calorie bag that just happens to be a slip? Enjoy it, and move on. :-) Plus those little suckers are just yummy:-)

I think things you enjoy are a NECESSARY part of a healthy, balanced life style. If you restrict your favorite things out of your life you're going to binge or fall off the bandwagon altogether. Don't make anything illicit, just do your best to stay within your calorie range.

Cheating is a nasty, nasty word, and I suggest you get that word out of your vocabulary.

You have a Sparkpeople range for a reason! Use it! Okay, so 230 calories for M&Ms is a lot, but that doesn't mean you're bad, wrong, or have done something you shouldn't have. Next time, mix those M&Ms in with some peanuts and raisins, and you've got a protein-heavy salty/sweet snack that will fill in the cravings with heavier nutrients!

It's okay. Here's a great article I found that really explains why you should drop the "bad food" attitude and realize it's okay to have things in moderation. And just what "moderation" means, really.

Don't worry just add it to your intake for the day. I eat Cadbury Royal Dark Indulgent chocolate at least 3x a week, but I only eat one serving (170) and I add it into my count for the day. You have to think of your weight loss journey as a lifestyle change, not a diet. I exceeded my goal by controlling portions and making veggies the biggest portion on my plate, you can do it. Don't beat yourself up!

CARIBBEAUTY,

You are NOT a bad person because you ate some candy. Don't associate food with guilt. that's not healthy. Spark People isn't about deprivation. it's all about moderation and portion control. Yes, even a bag of M&Ms CAN be a part of a healthy lifestyle.

So, don't beat yourself up. As long as you don't eat an entire huge bag of candy in one sitting, no one says you can't have a small bag once in a while. This was your treat for the day. For the rest of the day, no more guilt. You eat a healthy dinner and maybe an evening snack of a piece of fruit.

Honestly, if you beat yourself up every single time you eat something that you don't think is healthy, you're going to make yourself miserable.

Cut yourself some slack. Remember, you're trying to change habits learned over a life time. that's not going to happen overnight, a week, a month or even a year. Change takes time. thus the need to be patient with yourself and your body.

now, no more beatings. you ate the candy. you log the candy. you move on with life.

Hi Cari,

All foods are permitted. Planning is key and while 230 calories sounds like a lot of calories, you can work around them and still hit your calorie range, unless you allow guilt to knock you off track.

Hang in there!
