I love Italian Food and could eat it every day,so what I do- when I do eat it. I ask for the bread to only come with the meal it-self and then I add no more...
I stick w/ red sauce base, and look for the healthy items 1st.
Eat Salad and fat-free dressings,
Also look at the side dishes.
Also ask the server, if there is a nutrition's menu to look at....or one for Diabetes... emoticon

Thanks everyone. I ordered penne pasta with grilled chicken and mushrooms with red sauce. I ate half and boxed the other half...and "forgot" to bring the box home with me. I did eat some garlic bread (oops lol) but it was sooooo good.

I shouldn't have stepped on the scale this morning bc it showed a 2 pound gain, but I know it's probably just from the sodium.

Thanks again for all your help! emoticon

More importantly, your hubby is thinking about you, even though money is tight and you are both stressed out. I hope you have a great time, and that for just a short time forget about the tough times and reflect on what brought you together.

Worry about dieting tomorrow.

God Bless and keep you both.

A lot depends on the cook and recipe, but usually puttanesca sauce is a good safe bet - lotsa veggies and low fat. Over a nice whole grain pasta, it's great! Decadently good flavor and usually not expensive (only tastes that was).

For a laugh, Google puttanesca and see where the sauce comes from!

How about when you order your meal, you ask for a to-go box and put either half or two-thirds of the entree in the box to take home with you to eat tomorrow for lunch/dinner?

Portion control is such as huge part of this lifestyle! Good luck and enjoy yourself with hubby!

We haven't had much money lately, which has made the hubby and I very tense and stressed. He decided to surprise me with a dinner date tonight. I know we are going to a local (not chain) Italian restaurant.

He hates it when I get all obsessive about calories, so I'm not going to complain and freak out about the fact that there is nothing healthy on the menu. I looked at the menu online, but they don't have any nutrition facts.

Does anyone have any idea what I can order that isn't too bad? I'm allergic to seafood so that's ruled out.

Thanks in advance :)

Oh and P.S. I need something high protein but low fat :)

Slow cookers aren't just for meat! This is a tasty, affordable one-pot vegetarian meal that's filling and perfect for your slow cooker. You can also add shrimp during the last 20 minutes of cooking. If the dish is a little too spicy for the kids, add 1 Tablespoon of plain yogurt to their serving. Serve with a glass of milk and a cucumber salad. Full Recipe
