BETZI01 - Don't quit SparkPeople! Two weeks just isn't enough time to give it, or your new program a fair shake! Personally, my weight loss never immediately corresponds to what I've done in a certain week - it takes about 2 weeks for the change to reflect. "Slow & steady wins the race." It may be a cliche, but it is SO TRUE. Just keep tracking. Keep trying. You WILL see a difference!

Just started on Nov.3 Got off to 2.5# loss the first week and now the scale is up a pound this week. Tried weighing in on another day, cuz I thought about normal fluctuations etc. but it just says the same or more!! After 2+ weeks of food and fitness tracking I am frustrated and ready to quit Sparkpeople.

I just gobbled down a cup of rice with low fat marg (I know--not a way out disaster). It is a knee-jerk response to work frustration. I'd like to rant, only the poor dog is here, so I'm trying this panic thing for the first time. Mostly this slows you down because you have to take time to type and express the issue. I'd like to go for a long walk but I have a huge deadline to crunch. Must get back to my deadline......

Karen,

Exercise is important, but too much of anything can lead to overtraining issues, even the possibility of your body breaking down lean body mass to make up for the caloric deficit. This is certainly a scenario you do not want to do. You will lose lean body mass any time you have a caloric deficit, but you want to lose as little as you can.

Therefore, never underestimate the power of a good day or two off each week from formal exercise. The goal is to have a slight caloric deficit from your pre-Spark diet and a moderate caloric expenditure from exercise.

Hang in there!!!

Oh my. So I've been stuck at a plateau since freaking August, and as soon as I think I make progress, and then I'm back up to 160. I can't seem to beat it yet!!!

So I decided last week that I was going to work out everyday, which is working out lovely. I'm feeling great, but I guess my body can't handle the lack of calories, because I couldn't handle myself today! I ate everything! Luckily I picked healthy things, but I still went over my calories by 200 and I REALLY want another glass of wine. I had a rough day at school and I'm still trying to find a part time job (I'm a grad student) and my hubby still hasn't found a job here in Baltimore yet and it's bene 6 months and he might have to go back to Texas! YARG.

I don't know if my body can handle the whole less than 1800 calorie thing, should I just work out more? I've proven to myself that I can make time for it...

BLAH.

end rant. Thanks! I feel much better!

~Karen

Chef Meg's Baby Spinach Salad with Strawberries and Toasted Almonds
Submitted By: CHEF_MEG

Chef Meg moves strawberries from the dessert course to the salad course. Fresh and juicy during spring and summer months, strawberries are delicious when combined with tender spinach and crunchy toasted almonds. This dish was inspired by a member-submitted recipe. She reduced the amount of sweetener used and then increased the vegetables to ensure you'd get a full cup of fruit and vegetables.
TIP: Instead of slicing strawberries for the salad, quarter them. Quartered strawberries are easier to pick up with a fork! Full Recipe
