Yes, try cutting back on the olive oil. Good protein sources include tuna in water, skinless chicken, turkey!, low-fat yogurt, whey protein powder, and there are many more that are low in fat. However, I also recommend salmon and eggs, which do have more fat.

Thanks for the protein drink tip. I don't eat badly either but olive oil adds more fat than I thought and we eat sort of a island/meditteranean diet and used it quite liberally at home. Have been cutting back by not sauteing veges and eating more egg whites at lunch and that is helping.

i have the same problem! I just started taking protein for women (Aria) mixed with skim milk... about 160 cals. adds 22 grams of protein, 0 fat and 160 cals.
As for the fat, I dont think I eat "badly" but I had to start planning my days ahead of time. cheese is my downfall. im going to switch to reduced fat cheese.
its time consuming, but play around with meals and plug them in, youll find it will make it easier to meet all your daily needs... then stick to the plan!

Is it better to focus on trying to get the total calories in or the protein intake? I cannot seem to find the right blend of foods to meet all the requirements. It feels like I am eating too much trying to satisfy all the areas. Perhaps that is what the meal plans are for? Its tough changing my way of eating I guess.

JA,

Pre-plan your meals and snacks. If you notice you are getting too much fat, this is the time you can make adjustments before you eat.

Watch your portion sizes. Measure out/count the nuts in a serving. Try some lower fat sources of protein (edamame--soybeans).

Even though it is "healthy fat" mostly from nuts, olive oil etc. I seem to be having trouble staying within the recommended fat intake daily and eating enough protein. Any ideas?
