I'm 21 and about 20 pounds over what would be healthy. I know I was more athletic in high school, but it seems so far away now...

I couldn't until I got there, I never believed it would happen, which was probably why it took so long to really try.
Now I just have trouble picturing myself fitter.

I can. My problem is that the image I have of myself doesn't match what' in the mirror. I FEEL smaller than I am! It's a weird feeling, and I startle myself sometime.s Thankfully, the image in the mirror is (slowly) approaching what I feel like it's supposed to be!

No, I don't think I can. I've always been the "big girl" with a tummy that always stuck out, clothes that always chaffed and rubbed uncomfortably. Should I ever get to that magical place of "healthy bmi", I'm not sure I won't still see a round face, thighs that jiggle and a spare tire around my waist.

I use modelmydiet.com to try and visualize a slimmer me. I'm not sure it helps, but it gives me a little perspective, since I'm really too chicken to take a "before" picture to compare myself to.

Like ODDMEANTTWEAK, I have some photos of myself when I weighed my goal weight and felt good physically and emotionally, so yes, I can picture it. If you don't have any such photos, I can see where it would be difficult. Do you have a family member who resembles you and is at a size close to your goal, or a friend with similar looks who is that size? If so, maybe a photo of them would be helpful. Best of luck--don't give up.

A few years ago, I had lost a lot of weight and landed around 155, which for me was a very healthy weight if tough to maintain. I have a ton of pictures from that period - I was never camera shy then!

These days I worry again about photos. I'd like to get back down around 160 and stay there and enjoy fitting into my mental self-image again.

This may sound odd, but can you picture yourself at a healthy weight?

I was at a healthy weight in my 20s, so I guess I associate that with youth. Plus, I remember my mom at my age always struggling with her weight.

I look at myself in the mirror, and I just can't picture it. I can't develop a mental image of me with less weight, a smaller belly, etc.

I'm not letting this hold me back, but its frustrating and I'm just wondering if anyone else runs into this too.
