I like to spend about an hour when I go to the gym. I bring a small notebook and record how long I stay on each piece of equipment and how heavy and how many reps I do with the weights. I think the challenge of trying to do more each time is what keeps me there so long.

I work at a gym, so getting there isn't the problem, but making myself work out (especially after a long shift on my feet!) can be an issue.
I bargain with myself that I will do ten minutes on x machine. I usually find that once I'm done with that ten minutes, I can convince myself that ten on another machine won't be so bad. Before I know it I'm up to 30 or more.
Reading a magazine while I walk (covering up the time & distance!) helps sometimes, too.
I am not a big gym fan either. I so prefer to just open my front door and go for a walk in my Kangoo Jump boots with a dog or not or take a bike ride for wider range of exploration. Living in Colorado it takes some major bundling sometimes but there has never been a time I regretted the workout. Sometimes it is great to just stay inside and do a yoga session or some vigorous cleaning. The idea is to get in the habit of regular movement. Maybe dance to music that moves you or follow one of the many workout videos here at Sparkpeople. If the gym is not for you find something else you like.
