Count me as another person who has never had an exercise "high"! I kid that I must not have 2 endorphin molecules in my entire body. Lol. I feel good after exercise only in terms of the satisfaction that comes from doing a task that you know is important.

The good news is that habits can be formed even without highs.

And weight can be lost without loving exercise. Being in shape still gives you energy and health. And I figure that is nothing to sneeze at. :-)

You guys were right!

I kept it up, added strength training, tracking what I ate, started drinking more water and the scale is moving. emoticon

Thanks!

I have never ever had a "high" from exercising. Other people run and feel amazing; I feel like I am going to vomit. I'm struggling with a plateau that has lasted weeks; my big success of the month was being down 2/5 of a pound.

On the other hand, my jeans are looser, I have more energy, my skin looks great and I'm sleeping like a rock for the first time in years.

Find the positive and keep plodding along. emoticon

Just keep pushing forwards! Exercise is never ever a bad thing (unless your hurting yourself or overdoing it, of course) but just keep on going for it!

"The scale can be a fickle POS"

I love this. It's very true.

CAROLINAGIRL, don't give up. If you went from being a couch potato to exercising 3 times a week, your muscles are definitely improving and the slight weight gain you see is temporary. It has happened to me too. For inspiration, I googled "health benefits of exercise" and started reading here and there. It's amazing what good exercise does to your health. The scale is discouraging, and it's easier said than done, but don't give up!

When I hit that wall I just keep telling myself that I am more persistent than the weight. If I keep at it, it has no choice but to give up.

I also realized some things when I was typing my Spark blog this evening. Feel free to check that out too.

Be good to yourselves...

LEC358 - You would think going from couch potato to exercising at least 3 times a week would warrant some kind of weight loss. Even if I am in my 40's.

I will be bumping up the cardio next week and adding some strength training.

Thanks everyone. I really appreciate your encouraging words!

The other thing to remember that there is some water retention that happens when you start an exercise program. It's temporary and tends to go away in 6-8 weeks. Also, are you tracking your measurements? The scale can be a fickle POS but the measuring tape actually tells you what size you are. After all, it's not like your weight is tattooed on your forehead.

Yes, I agree with the other posters....You have to mix up the exercise....Then the motivation comes back! I just switched back to step aerobics after doing a lot of Zumba the past year....Wow! Love it and really sweating!! After awhile, I'm going to do spinning.......Etc.....Good luck and don't give up....The good health is worth the fight!

It is going to be difficult. After 6 weeks of exercising and eating better, I gained 2 lbs instead of losing. Or even maintaining. emoticon

Hello CarolinaGirl,

In the years of exercise it has been my experience, that like many things, the 'high' will sometimes go. Just like other healthy lifestyle choices sometimes you just go ahead and do it anyway, Honestly I have never gone to bed and regretted doing some cardio, whether or not I wanted to do it initially. You are investing in your future healthy self. I agree with the previous poster about mixing things up. For me music is a HUGE motivator.

Just do it emoticon

Try spicing up your exercise routine and doing something different. That always helps me when I get in an exercise rut!
