Congratulations on having quit smoking. That is singly the most important thing that you could do for your health - even over weight-loss, so you have achieved MUCH!!!!
Don't beat yourself up for having forgone the exercise - it isn't best to focus on TWO major changes at one time and as the smoking took/takes precedence, you have done the right thing.
As far as getting back into exercise, just start with baby steps. You did it before, and you can do it again. Make one or two little changes to start with and only when your mind/body has gotten used to them, add something else to the mix.
In no time at all you will be 'full steam ahead" :-)
