Day 7 of my habit...I've modified it to daily strength training, since my abs (and other muscles) need a rest day. This way, I can rotate.

You're right, AGOAL, the more days you have under your belt, the easier it is. It's the starting that's hard, for me at least.

Today is Day 30 of my fruit/veggie habit, and I think it's gone really well. I can see myself continuing this trend. I just have to remind myself to plan ahead....something that doesn't come naturally to me! emoticon

Tomorrow I'll start a new habit....just trying to set a goal that's measurable and do-able!

Last night was my first night and I did well. UNfortunately, I did not eat all of my calories for the day which made me feel like I should try and have a snack but I managed. Just drank lots of water and kept reminding myself the more days I can get through on the streak the easier it will be for me.

Hi AGOALOF150 - It's been going well overall. I've realized that for me, this is more about planning than eating. I'm doing really well with the fruit - blueberries with my breakfast, and then I brought an apple and 1 ounce of almonds to my daughter's game. The veggies are a little trickier, especially on nights when we have something going on. So I've been planning better. Tonight, I had dinner in the crock pot so we wouldn't be tempted to hit the drive through after the game, and I got the salad all ready to go beforehand, too. That way, I had no excuses, and I was able to enjoy a yummy salad with my dinner.

How about you? Will you adjust your supper time, or take up a new hobby to distract you from snacking? I wish you all the best. You can do it!

After a very shaky start to the year healthwise I'm back, I hope, to check in once a day. How is everyone? I haven't fully decided what to make or break yet, I'm waiting for some results before I make up my mind, but that doesn't mean I can't visit. Take a big hug everyone, let's get the show back on the road, as it were.

Submom2 you look as though you are really going for it. Good for you. emoticon emoticon

Hello everyone, I am new and this seems like the perfect place to be. I have three habits that I want to break
1. Quit smoking without gaining weight
2. Get my exercise routine in place
3. Eat more vegs and fruits

I would like to have these under control by the first of next year, I dont really set resolutions but do want to make some changes
Thanx

Today is a new day and I will not dwell on the negative of yesterday!

Hi everyone! I was offline for a week since I was on deadline, but I'm back now. Unfortunately, I snacked a little during my last two days on deadline. :( Not over the top snacking like I would have before, but still, it was snacking. I'd ideally like to get a handle on my snacking so I don't do it while I'm working. I want to break that crutch. But I'm giving myself permission to snack (controlled snacking) while I read, which isn't as often, so I at least have an outlet.

JACKSGRAN - You didn't abandon us! It's hard to fit everything in.

Day 12 for me on the fruit & veggie scene. I've become reacquainted with some old standbys, and I've tried some new things, too. I'm learning (for me, at least) this is more about planning than eating. Who knew? emoticon

You must have all thought I'd vanished off the face of the earth. The past weeks have been so busy I haven't been able to get online until after 11pm here, that gives less than an hour to enter food etc - and it's been impossible. I'm guessing that everyone in the USA is also online at that time and Spark has been so slow, sometimes just not loading at all, that I've been really frustrated.

I need to catch up with you all and start my new habit. I'll talk about that in a minute. So sorry to have 'abandoned' you, but I didn't really.

Hi all.
I'm not doing well at all!
I just can't seem to stick with anything........really I should say "won't" not can't because I've done it before so I know I know I know..........what is wrong with me that I will eat myself to such an uncomfortable state.
Okay that's enough ..... Now I need to pick up and just do it .....1 meal at a time......1 day at a time

I've been reading your posts and you are giving me the courage and motivation to start again instead of giving up. Thank you
And congrats to all of you that are hanging in there and making your goals.

Hey Everyone! Day 8 for me. My daughter had a game tonight so I brought a subway veggie delight and an apple for my dinner, which I ate while I watched. For me, it's my weird evening schedule that really opens the door to lazy eating. As long as I plan ahead, I should be okay.

I am on Day 14 of exercise...making sure I work different muscle groups everyday (mixing in stretching, strengthening and cardio workouts). I am feeling more energized and motivated than I have in a long time. My goal is 30 straight days. It's motivating when going to the gym is "must do" item on the day instead "a maybe I'll see if I have time option."

Yeah for improving habits.

Kissing Diet Coke goodbye once and for all in February is next up on the hit list!

Day 19 today of my exercise habit. The ab challenge and the push-up/squat boot-camp I have taken on have really helped with this. Still on track beginning to think about the next one. A GREAT big emoticon to LEWASKO for checking on me. It is VERY much appreciated.Maybe my next habit should be logging in here daily.

Keep On Keeping On!!!

emoticon LIFEINTHEZONE! This is a great thread, and you'll find lots of support here!

LEWASKO - Good to hear from you. Weekends get a little dicey for me, too!

Today is Day 6 of my habit. I'm enjoying the fruits and veggies I've been eating, but I've also realized it takes more planning. I'm not a planner by nature, but I'm working on it, and I'm worth the effort. emoticon

Hope you all are doing well!

Glad I found this thread! I need to do the Diet Coke thing but not quite ready. So, I start Day 1 of fruit or veggie with every meal. I have been missing that in my diet. Thanks for starting this!

Hi Everyone-
Sorry you are feeling frustrated MADEIT. It sounds like getting past some milestones might be of benefit to you starting a very strict new plan. Hang in there, you'll know when you are ready!
I struggled a bit this weekend myself. I have no real good excuse though. emoticon I think i was just busy and not paying close enough attention. Weekends do that do me. Once I get out of my routine things get more complicated.

Oh well. I am hanging in there. SUBMOM- I am glad to see you checking in.

I hope MOMINE and JACKs are ok. They have been MIA the last few days. I hope to hear from them soon!

Really not doing well with this plan at all -- too many meals out to celebrate my retirement and too much stress. Big project came in and I think that the senior executives are looking at each other wondering how it will get done with me gone. I'm hanging tight till Wednesday, then will try to regroup. The VLC plan is just not working for me this time around. Not surprising as I've frequently had to change things up to get it to work on the first go round. Anyway, my report.

Interesting threads and glad everyone is doing well. Have a great weekend!

I wanted to share this with everyone... it is one of the tools I am using to help me stay motivated. I made this chart / poster for myself to remind me what is most important keys to my success. Please feel free to plagiarize... as I pulled this information from several sources and nothing is my own.

Ten Guidelines for Success:
(Items gleaned from Weight Watchers, therapy, Spark Points, and weight loss motivational sources like Chris Powell.)
1. BELIEVE that you CAN.
2. You can FALL without FAILING – forgive and move on. Assess what might have made you fall and recommit to making better choices.
3. Keep your promises to yourself. YOU are the main equation in any program.
4. Enroll others into your journey to health… your family can only benefit. At the same time, realize that their choices are not reasons to make bad choices. In the end you are doing this for yourself, not them.
5. HYDRATE – Drink ½ your body weight in H2O!
6. PLAN – take time every weekend to decide what meals to make, and make one new meal per week.
7. EAT – do not skip meals, eat breakfast, and eat within meal times so you do not get hungry enough to make bad choices.
8. PAUSE – if you feel you are hungry and need a sweet treat, pause for 5 minutes and drink some water. See if the craving goes away or can be satisfied
9. EXERCISE – Even just for 5 minutes.
10. Keep it simple, convenient, easy – if it gets too complicated it will be impossible to keep up.

emoticon FUNSIZE! I gave up Diet Coke almost a year ago. It was a hard habit to break (I had been drinking it since high school) but definitely doable. The first few days were the hardest for me. You can do it! And this is a great group for support!

Hey all! I started Monday Jan. 6th, with my goal to lose 62 pounds by 01/06/2015, make better healthy choices (which shouldn't be hard b/c I love vegs and fruits), cut back on drinking, and jog at least 5 miles a week on the treadmill (I'm actually shooting for one mile a day, so 7), and give up soda. So...my 30 day challenge is NO SODA!!! I'm on day 5!! And so far I've been doing ok, my second blog is actually about the struggle lol I'm always looking for subscribers to my blog for support and encouragement, or advice so please check out my sparkpage!!

I can do this!!

Good grief, well I lost the thread for a while, then realized I could find it by search the name. I wish I could say I was doing well, but I'm not. I've gained another pound (gosh darn it) and then lost it the day I ate 1400 calories rather than my normal 1000. I think all the "stress" of getting through to my retirement date is messing with my body. But it's only until Wednesday of next week and it's done. So I may have to start on Day 1 again next Thursday.

I'll try and read through the threads and see what I missed. Hope everyone is doing well.

Hello Everyone-
Boy this afternoon was challenging. I kept getting the urge to shove something in my mouth. Luckily I resisted and had a good, healthy dinner so I feel much better now. emoticon

Glad to see everyone checking in. SUBMOM I love the new habit. It's so positive!! I am still thinking about what mine should be. I think I am going to MAKE a habit of some kind as well. I posted a blog yesterday that focused on making non-weight related positive changes. (I borrowed the words). It was inspiring to me.

Everybody keep up the good work!! INE and JACKS you two must be close by now right??
